Its my duty to grill the burgers, brats, steaks, or whatever else my wife has on the menu. And while Im not the greatest chef when it comes to outdoor cooking, I love the unforgettable aroma of grilling over a charcoal fire. So the mention of a fire of coals in John 21:9 catches my attention. And I find myself wondering why John would include this detail in the story about Jesus calling a failing Peter back to serve and follow Him.
In verses 1-3, its apparent that Peter had reopened his fishing business. Just a few days before, Peter was warming his hands over a charcoal fire when he denied Jesus to save his own skin (John 18:17-18 ESV). So why not go back to fishing?
While Peter and his cohorts were casting nets, Jesus built a fire on the beach. Coincidence? I doubt it! And as Peter approached Jesus, I wonder if the pungent aroma of the burning charcoal brought back memories of that other fire where he had failed Christ. Yet Jesus in His mercy took the initiative to call Peter back into His service.
Think of it: Jesus is willing to forgive our failures and call us into His service. After all, if only perfect people qualified to serve Him, He wouldnt have anyone to choose from!
Read: John 21:3-17
That one is cute.
I can’t wait to get a report on all the dehydrated foods you purchased, especially the green and red peppers.
All I know about dehydrated food is the Betty Crocker 3 cheese potatoes and scalloped potatoes. I fixed one just the other day and they are absolutely delicious. I warmed over the next day and they were just as good.
If I was having company I would probably make the homemade kind but as good as these were, 2 boxes would feed an army. I have used these potatoes before (just for me) they are quick cooking in the oven and my homemade aren’t that much better, if at all.
When I go to my son’s (or he comes here), he always requests the SAME thing: his favorite scalloped potatoes. Well, they are the same ones you are talking about - Betty Crocker. The only thing different that I do, is I add more milk, and two bunches of sliced green onions - tops and all.
I have made scalloped potatoes from scratch, but they just aren’t as good as ol’ Betty’s.
I totally agree. I bet if I used 2 boxes and a huge casserole of these, my family would not even know they were Betty Crocker's. It gives the recipe on back for 2 boxes!! I may try this the next time I have to take a dish to one of their get together's!!
The company that makes the dehydrated food that Wal-Mart is now selling, is called Augason Farms. Here is what the pepper can looks like:
There are several cooking demonstrations on YouTube - (just type in Augason Farms)
They also have an extensive web site:

Awwww, JC. You are right - that is SO sweet!
Thanks, I’m going to check that out when I get the kitchen and den straightened up and get the washer and dryer humming along. LOL!
I’m making notes on the dyhydrated food..I would love to have something on hand when I want red and green peppers..been saved by onion flakes and garlic powder many times!
Love your suggestion of adding green onions to the potatoes.
Loved this, jaycee!
I have dehydrated many foods, Meg. But, each one must be prepared for dehydration according to directions. I have jars of dehydrated mushrooms, celery, potatoes, onions, etc. They have come in handy, when I can’t get to the market.
I am going to try the dehydrated whole eggs this morning. All you add is water, and stir, cook and you have scrambled eggs - with all the nutrients. (I’ll let you know how they taste!)
`LOL..Never too old..?
Good luck with the eggs.
I will not be doing my own dried foods..just buying them.
I seem to recall a marathon peeling , slicing and dehydrating you did..I was tired just reading about it!
You did really good. :^)
If I live to be 92, (Good Lord willing), I PRAY that I won’t turn into a woman like that! Poor thing probably has dementia. Don’cha think?
I was on vacation, playing the slot machines. It was my first time in a casino, and I wasn’t sure how the machines operated.
“Excuse me.” I said to a casino employee. “How does this work?”
The worker showed me how to insert a bill, hit the spin button, and operate the release handle.
“And where does the money come out?” I asked.
He smiled and motioned to a far wall before saying, “Usually at the ATM.”
We are blessed, to be a blessing ...
Time, energy, strength, good health,
can not be bought with money.
It is necessary for some things.
It does not make one wise, or give understanding ...
Look to God for grace, hope, mercy, love, eternal life ...
none of which can be bought in this world.
I would hope so!!
