1960s songbird Joan Baez had a treehouse built -- without walls -- 20 feet high in an oak tree behind her Woodside home because she wanted to sleep with birds.
The folksinging legend, who once performed the civil rights anthem "We Shall Overcome" before a half-million people at Woodstock, fell from that treehouse Wednesday as she climbed down from the platform.

People are sure critical of her here!
She has something she built on her own property for her own enjoyment.
What's the problem with that?
There are days I wouldn't mind hanging out in a tree house with a good book!

It’s not the treehouse itself that’s funny, it’s the “sleeping with birds” thing that suggests she isn’t playing with a full deck.

Either that or issue a fine for building with no permit.

This story would have been better if Charlie Sheen had been along for the trip.

Well true.
But I guess better to sleep with the birds than the fishes!?
(As Don Corleone would say)

I might be wrong on this, but I thought Joan was actually one of the few hippies who shunned drugs.

At 70, sleeping with the birds is probably her last hope.

Right you are. She was/is a fantastic singer. Fantastic.
But as Andy said, her music suffered when she drifted into politics.
I’ve never quite understood why entertainers feel they have some special mandate to push their politics on the rest of us.

She has something she built on her own property for her own enjoyment. What's the problem with that? Agreed. I'm just happy that she was not seriously hurt. But you've got to admit that the whole thing is an easy target for jokes and puns. Of course, I assume - and hope - that had she been seriously injured, there would be less frivolity here.

For sure! As the story stood, it was more comical than serious.

When I was in high school we had an English teacher who loved explaining such things as “McCarthyism” and all such history from a hard Left perspective. That is... when she wasn’t discussing English Lit and all the phallic symbols we needed to take note of.

Ms Baez has apparently crossed the fine line between Leftism and dementia.

An interesting piece of biographical data is that her father was Alberto Baez, a renownned PhD physicist who invented the x-ray microscope, and who is immortalized in the name of the Kirkpatrick-Baez lensing system in use in x-ray optics.

So this bird really did fly the coop (see #98).
To: decimon
Well, that would have been a bird of a different feather.
