Evidence is mounting that levels of vitamin B12 may be connected to the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
A study of 271 Finns found those with the highest levels were the least likely to be diagnosed with dementia.
However, an Alzheimer's charity said despite the findings, published in the journal Neurology, it was "too early" to think about taking supplements.
It called for more research into the protective power of vitamins such as B12 - found in meat, fish and eggs.
Vitamin B12 can also be found in milk and some fortified cereals.

This makes a lot of sense. Quite a lot of sense.
I take the sub-lingual B12 and find that it real revs up my energy level when I’m feeling tired. I can usually tell a difference in just 2-3 days.
Misleading title or what?
The title makes you think B-12 is a cause.
Exact. Same. Second.
Just put a pill under your tongue. That way the good stuff is absorbed directly into the blood stream. This bypasses your guts which may well have given up the ghost on absorbing B-12 from the food you eat.
However, it should be brought out (and perhaps the article does this), the problem with B12 and older people is that the vitamin is absorbed in the stomach. But, many older people lose the intrinsic factor necessary for absorption. Therefore, a person can swallow as much B12 as they wish and still not get the vitamin into their system.
What is necessary are b12 injections and I contend at much higher levels than is recognized now.
While overseas, a medical person put my apparently unrelated symptoms together and developed a hypothesis that I may have pernicious anemia or perhaps a b12 deficiency. So, I began daily injections, the “loading” doses of b12. Within 2 or 3 days, I noticed a major decrease in my “fuzzy, fungus-in-the-brain” headaches and I wasn’t losing my balance as much as before. I increased the dosages and the headaches stopped. As I decreased the dose the headaches and dizziness began coming back.
That was about 1.5 years ago. I still need b12 although not quite as much as in the beginning. It does make a difference. I know this isn’t substantiated at this time by science but I’m experiencing it.
I find the sublinqual doesn’t work for me quite as well as the injections. But I’m having a lot of trouble getting injectable here.
I take those, too, and have the same results. It also helps my mood when I'm feeling down.
Wow, that was amazing!
I hate shots, so I’ll stick with the sub-lingual. :) I had to have the rabies shots when I was six because I was bitten by a stray dog and my parents couldn’t find the dog. IF I get really tired and run down, I’ll double up and do two in the a.m. and two in the p.m. for a few days and it seems to work fast.
I understand what you mean. I used to have shots every month for insect allergies. But now, I’ve learned to give myself the shots for B12. The difference is amazing!
Oh! It should also be brought out that B12 is water-soluble. This means that what you don’t use, you eliminate. There appears to be no toxic amount. You can take as much as you need without worry of overdose.
Back in Texas I did allergy shots weekly. Hated it. Would have to roll my arm into a doorway or walk for the fat part (I only weighed a little over 100 back then) and then inject it. Sometimes I’d mess up and usually on about the third try I’d throw it in the garbage. We moved about 15 years ago and my allergies are 95% improved so no more shots. :)
I’ll have to check into the shots and see, they aren’t so bad, I’m just not a big fan and avoid them but IF they work better, I’m open to that.
Wait, what were we talking about again?

Indonesian recipe is far better:
Get pot of mung beans
Cover with water just over the beans
Boil the pot of mung beans for one hour until skin breaks
Put into blender on high with a little brown sugar for taste
Put into frig.
Put some into thermos and drink at work at 3 pm to clean out the lactic acid in the blood.
This recipe is hundreds of years old [but they ground by hand then.]
It`s a B12 kicker!
You can also add a little bit of ginseng to the mung bean mix for energy.
My mother died in 2007, she had Alzheimer’s and they had her on B12 shots for quite a while, not that it did any good at that time but it might before onset.
