Questions about healthcare: PLEASE DO NOT ZOT ME!
Today | Me

Posted on 09/21/2009 8:14:45 AM PDT by 68gunswillneverdie

Hello: Please do not ZOT me. I am a member here for 5+ years. I did this because I had a question that involves my family and know that the freepers are great at advsing/giving asnswers. Yes I joined today and I did this because I don't want my family's business running around the net:

1) I have two sons that were sick. One had cancer and went through chemo. He was covered by my insurance as long as he stayed in college. He fumbled and is not in school at the momnet. When this happened my insurance did not cover him anymore. He cannot get insurance now because NO company wants to do it becuase of the pre-existing clause. Is there any insurance company or way that you guys know of that he can get insurance. He's free of the cancer now but the insurance problem is so bad now that he is making plans to move to Seattle, WA so that he can get on their community insurance program.

2) I have another son that has diabetes. My insurance still covers him. But once he hits 22-23, he will also be dropped by the insurance company. What can he do?

Guys dont ZOT me ok. Or at least give me some time to get some replies or FreepMail me. This is a post of desperation. Yes this is a vanity. But we have been looking for months now and the boys keep asking "Why is Obmama's plan so bad?" I would appreciate some postive replies or suggestions. Hey Jim, you run a great site. I love it and it IS the best. I voted Bush,Dole,W,MCain OK guys? GOD BLESS THE USA AND YOU ALL.

You should continue, or should have continued them on COBRA until they got work benefits. The only way pre-existing conditions count as a denial of insurance is when you let them lapse for more than 60 days. I know COBRA is expensive, but in your two sons cases, in the long run, it would have been worth it.

You need to do a lot more research than just asking the question on a discussion forum.

There are plenty of options available to each of your sons. That alone tells me that you are doing nothing but making an ad-hominom attack on conservatives.

So, here is my response:

Keep your laws off my BODY!

When this “health care for all” crap passes, right now the legislation states that it will be illegal to sell private policies over the date of passage. It also says that HSA’s will no longer be allowed. That means that my current policy will no longer be allowed and neither I nor my employer will be allowed to privately purchase an alternative.

I will not accept the “public option” that I will be dictated to join. I will not give the government control over my physical body. I will not pay their fines, I will not surrender to the impending warrant for my arrest. When they knock on my door, I will not answer. When they kick it in, I will make the news.

How’s that for unification, libtards? You loons are currently legislating my death. I will chose the terms and I will bring as many of you along as possible!

Whenever I started a new job, and signed up for health insurance, I was never asked about pre-existing conditions...hmmm.

I second that. When I married my Dh over 23 years ago his insurance through his work started covering me. I’ve been a type 1 since I was 9 yo.

If you get an employer based health care plan can they still deny you because of pre existing or say they won’t treat anything pertaining to pre existing?

Everywhere that I've worked has not denied coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

But, of course, your mileage may vary from plan to plan and employer to employer.

Right now we have a family in our parish. There is a Dad who is laid off, a Mom who worked but was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer so is too sick to work, and three kids one of which is in stage 4 lymphoma.

The parish has come together to help this family. There is a spaghetti dinner next weekend and they sell tickets after every mass with a donation jar.

That’s how conservatives help. We don’t look to the government. You are absolutely correct.

Well, you do get +1 point in my book for using a cool Alarm lyric as your screen name.

Other than that, though...putting “don’t zot me” in a threat title is basically like throwing a bucket of fish guts into the sea and yelling “OK, SHARKS, DON’T EAT IT!”

I am sorry that some people here are giving you a hard time. Medical situations can put you between a rock and a hard place.

I have had two craniotomies (meaning drilling into the old noggin to remove a benign tumor on two separate occasions) and can pretty much only get Blue
Cross Blue Shield at their highest insurance rate. I accept the fact that I pay a lot more than most people because of the surgeries. It is fair that people without this medical history pay less.

The insurance available to you depends on the state in which you live, but I don’t think that Blue Cross Blue Shield can turn people away in any state. I have also spoken with insurance brokers on two separate occasions in order to see if I could reduce the rate somehow, and I know that this is my only option at present, one which I can fortunately afford. I would advise you to:
a. Speak to someone who knows insurance.
b. Find out the rates at Blue Cross Blue Shield in your state.

I’m no expert, but this is what I know.

You’re responding to post 87. The OP has not come back to say a thing.

You may not like it, but people do come here to set us up. When I have posted a Vanity, I come back and thank the people who took the time to answer.

Until the OP does that, he will be suspicious. That’s reasonable.

If you’ve been a member here for 5+ years, how can you have just signed up?

And begging to not get zotted is a sure way to attract attention.

This all really cuts into your credibility.

As for the problems with your sons, sorry to sound so hard nosed about it, but they’re not the only ones in that position. Why should we have to pay for it if you don’t want to?

I have my own financial problems. I don’t need yours as well. If someone wants to help you out of their own free will, that’s their choice.

Don’t compel me to do it through obama care.

What's needed isn't insurance. Insurance is for the unexpected. It's too late for that. What is needed is more money to pay for the resources that will be used to help your sons.

Obama's plan may indeed force some people to pay to help your sons. That's not insurance. That's a subsidy.

How do you feel about that? Some people believe it's a form of stealing. Is stealing justified here?

It's a classic moral dilemma.

I am a small businessman that developed bladder cancer 12 years ago. Although I have been free from it for 6 years, I have been unable to change insurance companies. Naturally my premiums have skyrocketed thru the years. Here is the problem. Life is not fair. To ask an insurance company to cover a pre existing illness would completely bankrupt the industry. For example, when Congress talks about doing away with this exemption from coverage, are they familiar with credit life insurance? I really don’t know. How sweet it would be to be diagnosed with terminal cancer and be able to buy a new car for your wife, put accident and health insurance on it and have it paid for when you died. To even discuss forcing an insurance company to cove pre existing illness is to suspend all logic.

This is (or at least is supposed to be) a free country.

If you don’t have Health Insurance, you have 3 choices:

1) Buy some
2) Get a job where it’s available
3) A combination of 1&2

If this Obamacare crap gets passed:

1) The private health insurance industry will collapse (See Auto Industry, Maunfacturing Industry, et. al.)
2) The Healthcare will be sub-standard, and care will be rationed
3) We will all be further in debt

And, since you’ve posted no reply to this thread since you posted it:

It depends on the medication mine is a generic that does a good job of controlling my blood sugar ,if you have not tried different meds I strongly urge you to do so. It is cheaper for me not to use my insurance as my copay is higher than the drug.

What if they want to contribute to society in a different way than sitting in a cubicle? If they are self-employed, they can’t get insurance. I thought we were in favor of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency. Your solution is to get a dead-end job.
