I'm not taking a position one way or the other, I have been watching the "Birther" controversy with interest.
In answering my question, please go further than the obvious, in other words what would be the outfall and how would you handle the eventual constitutional crisis? Would Biden become prez? If he is no longer viable, would it then fall to Pelosi?
I'm asking the birther supporters to think long range about this.
Exactly. The current spin is that "birthers" (I'd like to known as "constitutionalists" but whatever) are kooks but the longer it's on the front page, the longer it's legs will grow. Hussein has been overstepping far too much and the taxpayers are beginning to wake up. It's gone past the forged short form. Bottom line it's about natural born.

a thought just occurred to me Bob. If Hillary were VP, next in line for the presidency, they would be scouring every avenue looking for proof that he was ineligible. Since she has several people in line in front of her (honestly I don’t know the order), it is of little interest to her. Think of how that would change things!
Once Obama is certified by the electoral college the only way to remove him would be by impeachment. That’s not going to happen unless the democrats show no confidence in him.(fat chance) It could force a change in the process of running for President AND Vice President by requiring actual notarized legal proof of natural born citizenship to get on the ballot. If that happened, Obama would have to prove nbus citizenship before he could run for the next four years.
Consequences for upholding the Constitution? WTF do you think the consequences would be for the country if an unqualified person with documented foreign connections stays illegitimately in office?
It would be a terrible day for America if the birthers are right.

Would there be strife? I should say so! The Founding Fathers put more than their gas prices and 401ks on the line for this country and about time we do the same.

Suits me. They only burn and destroy stores and buildings in their own neighborhoods so let have at it. I’m surrounded by dairy farms so unless they wanna loot some cows or some corn, it really wouldn’t affect me that much.

And for the record (and I have said this on FR in the past) I don’t think it is going to go anywhere, so from a pragmatic point of view, it will likely be wasted effort.
But if people want to pursue it in parallel with other efforts to undermine the legislative destruction his agenda and that of liberals is having on this country, then I see nothing wrong with that.
What I DO see wrong is allowing liberals to frame the boundaries of what is proper and what is not, forcing the rest of us to stay within those boundaries, use the words they define as allowable, and cede to them the acceptablity of who and what should be scorned and ridiculed, and who and what should be praised and elevated.
We have seen the damage that has caused socially, and now we are seeing the results of that politically.
Follow the Constitution.
If BHO is ineligible, then he must be removed. Whatever the legal consequences, do what needs to be done to restore Constitutional order.
Yes, it would be messy - very very messy. That’s why we FOLLOW the Constitution, and don’t make stuff up or ignore it.
I can’t understate how messy it would be. Maybe the lesson would remind people why we follow the Constitution; ignoring it causes huge problems.
If we get into such a mess, it’s because someone created the mess - not because we insist the mess be cleaned up.

What is up with the virulent shock at the use of word “birthers”? You’re contesting the facts surrounding BHO’s birth. Big deal. To me is seems a lot more benign than say “tea-bagger”.
I wonder how many people objecting to the use of this word have used the word “truther” in the past.
I don't remember Bush locking down everything and making sure no one spills the beans. I don't remember records being lost, forged, destroyed, or any break ins to state offices to clean up his past.

There would be no “re-do” of the election as the Constitution doesn’t call for one under any circumstance.

There is simply no question GWB is eligible. His parents are citizens, he was born here, there is no circumstantial evidence indicating anything to the contrary. The question was unnecessary. Question not asked, answer need not be given.
There _were_ questions about whether McCain was eligible. He promptly responded by showing all relevant documents, which were reviewed by those empowered to do so and his eligibility legally established. Question asked, answer given.
BHO, however, has mountains of circumstantial evidence that he isn’t eligible, and is going to great & bizzare lengths to not provide proof to the contrary. Question asked, answer ... refused? WTF?
Then Obama is arrested by the FBI, handcuffed and perp-walked out of The White House.
He should be charged with numerous specifications of fraud and treason and given a fair trial... I pray.

Don’t be so dramatic. Phrases are coined, they get used and then become part of the vernacular. I never liked the word “FReeper” when Lucianne came up with it...I actively tried to get it shunned. Unfortunately, nothing I could do about it, it stuck.
If you think you can get “birther” switched to “consitutionalist”, well, good luck with that.
Question there is what location is given. HI may issue a COLB, but indicates not-in-state birth location.
