My nephew deploys to Afghanistan tonight at 1:00 AM.
He will be flying his F-16 over with his squadren.
He recently lost one of his best friends in a night training mission.
His wonderful new bride and family are worried for him.
This was his last email to me today. He has been under intense training.
Freeper, (me)
Like you said, lots of inputs. I leave in less than 24 hours. I'm well trained and not too worried about mechanical failure. If that happens and I win the "Reverse Lottery" then I'll hope my training/muscle memory takes over. Thank you again for the kind words and I'll keep my head on a swivel. You can expect emails while I'm over there.
Take care, PILOT
As I write this, he has just gone airborne!
I'm just not sure how much information needs to be given here but he's a good, decent man and we look forward to the safe return of him and his squadren.
Your additional thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Freeper Fanatic

God bless him and keep him safe. I know that feeling when family is deployed. It’s not one you forget.

Thanks for the supportive response people.
He is a special young man.
An AF Academy grad, he's received several commendations for his outstanding performance.
He's self driven and determined to succeed.
The kind of person you hope your own will grow up to be like, each in their own way.
He used to sit in front of a picture of his jet trainer cockpit and go through the motions of flight on his own time when not in a simulator so he would have all his training information drilled and screwed into his head.
