A fossil discovery bears marks of butchering similar to those made when cutting up a deer
One of science's most puzzling mysteries - the disappearance of the Neanderthals - may have been solved. Modern humans ate them, says a leading fossil expert.
The controversial suggestion follows publication of a study in the Journal of Anthropological Sciences about a Neanderthal jawbone apparently butchered by modern humans. Now the leader of the research team says he believes the flesh had been eaten by humans, while its teeth may have been used to make a necklace.

Dude .... these guys are the Neanderthals (although you can't tell it by the sharp jacket the guy on the left is wearing).
Oh, and he ordered his duck with the mango salsa rather than a curry.
Good choice.
Of course, Mr. Grumpy on the right preferred to have a nice, crisp moral-issue salad instead.

Neandertals lasted longer than their show.

It depends who ate them.
Could they have been eaten by other Neanderthals, or maybe some Kenyans ate them.

Neanderthals - the other white meat?

I'm not sure why they consider this news. There was an article on Neanderthals in National Geographic last year. They'd found some bones in Spain that had been hammered open and the bone marrow removed, also the the skulls had been broken open and the brains scraped out, the scientist quoted in that article mentioned that humans had probably dined on them, and from the quote it didn't seem like a new discovery.

So? Primitive Homo sapiens have eaten other Homo sapiens up to the recent past, if not the present. Why should Homo neanderthalensis be exempt from the cooking pot?
