One thing that we will not be having is chicken.
We just had to dump about a dozen cans of chicken that we put up. The seals on the lids apparently were bad. The jars sealed and then popped about two days later. We didn't notice for a couple of weeks. You can imagine the smell.
I don't want to see chicken tonight.

Yeah, but ‘Face, she did not mention gravy.
We can get through this.

Were you pressure-canning them?
I’ve heard that’s the only safe way with meat.

*ugh*
The only thing that could smell worse would be bottled carp that had gone bad.
And Bob, I don’t LIKE gravy on my waffles!

Yep. We pressure canned. I have never had this happen before.
About two thirds of the jars are fine. The only thing I can think of is that we opened a new box of lids for the last jars and those are the ones that popped.

Not gravy.
Maple syrup. Or some of my homemade strawberry syrup.

Probably.
I wonder if we can get the company to reimburse us for the chicken. That was about six chickens that went to waste.

The pork dish got done before I was ready to eat. Wal-mart was out of chicken pieces, so Anoreth got a sub sandwich. We all ate the pork dish, and the guys can have the sandwich when they get home. There’s nothing left here but a few pieces of sweet potato! While I was giving Vlad a bath, Sally scavenged all the remaining meat out of the pan.
The girls have gone to bed now.

I thought this would make a good UT. Needs an Oktoberfest theme though. Did somebody say... BEER?

Wal-Mart is always out of chicken pieces when I want some!
HTB, would you be serving REAL maple syrup?
Thanks, Bob, TC, HTB...I’m hungry now, so I’m going to forage and then take my cute self to bed with a good book. I hope y’all have good nights, and that you take care of your respective Others.
*smooch*

Of course it is real Michigan maple syrup.
I can not stand the fake kind. Honey and maple syrup are about the only sugars I get.

Gosh! I haven’t had real Michigan syrup in... decades! (I have a small souvenir bottle from DTW airport; maybe I’ll buy a larger bottle next time I pass through and try it against LoM’s CT syrup.)

I get both the honey and syrup at either the farmer's market or the "brew-it" store.
One of the things I missed most when I was overseas was real maple syrup.

I just learned that an engineer I’d worked with about 25 years ago is now an apiarist who sells honey at various fairs. I may have to track him down and get that mead-making project I’ve been mulling over the past 35 years underway.

I am considering brewing some honey mead. So far all I have brewed is ale and some apple cider.
It's strange, we home can, home brew, garden, shop at a farmers market and drive a Volvo. Am I turning into a hippy? Or does being a cold hearted Bambi killer preclude that?
