Bar Gossip Leads to Nasty Surprise for Couple (Gotta read it to believe it...)

PRAGUE (Reuters) - A Czech couple who decided to take a DNA test to squash persistent pub gossip and prove that their 10-month-old baby was their own got a nasty surprise.

The couple, from the southeastern town of Trebic, had some doubts about the child as her hair was blonde and they both had dark hair. Fellow drinkers' suspicions got on their nerves.

But the test showed neither of the parents had the same DNA as the baby, Czech news agency CTK reported Wednesday, suggesting a mix-up at the hospital.

Authorities were looking into the case.

Sounds like something straight from a movie.

The article never implied they took the baby to the pub. You are making some assumptions.

And in the surprise ending, their own baby will tracked down and found with parents who’ve been hearing daily comments for the past 10 months about their baby “looks just like” one of them.

Things are a bit different in Europe--many pubs are family places. They serve dinner and other food, and have the children sit with their parents and drink colas and talk with other kids there.

I've seen mothers nursing their babies in pubs, as well as keeping up with older children.

It's a rare thing for someone to get falling down drunk in a pub.

At least this is the way it was 9 or 10 years ago when I was still traveling to Europe.

That's the kind of "mix up" that could really ruin your day. My wife made sure that I never left our baby unattended. I'm glad she did.

It should be obvious to all.... the zygote was implanted during the abduction.

The problem was that the gray one mistakenly put the wrong zygote in the host.

Moral..... don’t walk home drunk. They’ll get you.

I made sure my husband did the same thing. As they were whisking each baby out of the room right after delivery, he would follow and keep an eye on everything.

Oh dear, this really is heartbreaking. They—and the other couple with “their” baby—are probably head over heels in love with that precious bundle.

And then to find out that baby isn’t “yours” and there will probably be some sort of legal action to make the “switch”. Just rip my heart out right now.

I remember this happened in the US several years back. I remember the girl that both couples were fighting over was, IIRC, named Kimberly. There was a long protracted court battle. As I recall, the “other” child had medical problems, so both couples were fighting for Kimberly. It was all so sad.

One of the wisest things I’ve ever heard came from Grampa Walton on TV of all places.

He said something to the effect of “Being born into a family isn’t what makes you a part of that family. Being loved by that family is what makes you part of it.”

It is possible for a child to have lighter hair than the parents. My parents and brother have dark hair, dark eyes. I was born with blondish hair, blue eyes. But I am definitely their biological child. It’s funny that this story just turned out differently.

My husband and I have a child who looks nothing like either of us. Everyone says so, usually right after they comment on what a good-looking kid he is. (I guess they’re trying to say neither of us is good-looking...lol.) We couldn’t figure out who he resembled. Then, when my father passed away, I came across old photos of him when he was a kid, and I realized he is almost the spitting image of my dad.

Hopefully, this one won’t turn out the way the one I wrote of did. That was just tragic.

Grandpa Walton was a wise old man. ;^)

At the hospital I had my boys at, they immediately put a tag on his wrist that matched the one I had on my wrist, so there would be no mistake who’s baby was who’s
