I'm absolutely furious. Last night, I went to the 7-day Store here on base. As I was pulling up, Evening Colors was sounded. As any Marines out there know, when colors sounds, you either stand and face the flag, or you stop your vehicle if you are driving.
So, I stopped my car, because I was JUST in front of the store, and all the Marines coming out of the store were stopped and at attention, and other civilian workers stopped walking, and there is this guy.....
He was sitting on a bench outside. He didn't stand, he didn't stop flipping his newspaper pages, he didn't acknowledge in any way that our flag was being lowered. Mind you, the flag is right across the street from the 7-day store. As colors finished, this Marine, who was clearly up in rank, rips into him. He informs him of protocol when on base. He informs him that even if he is not a Marine, the rules on base are clear that you still show proper respect at Colors. So the disrespectful guy goes off on the Marine. He says he isn't a Marine, he doesn't care about Marines, and he is a Mexican citizen anyway, so he doesn't have do respect our flag at all.
Of course, my kids are with me, and when he says he doesn't care about Marines, my 8-year-old starts crying. She has had a tough time on this deployment, and she was devastated that this man was saying things about Marines, which she took to mean her father personally.
This battle went on for a while. The supervisor did nothing when about 15 of us went in to complain, and when I said I was going to complain to MCCS directly, they refused to give me the employees name. Oh yea, did I mention he WORKS THERE????????
I'm still following up this morning. From what I understand from a friend who was there later, someone called PMO on the guy, not us.
He knew. He said he knew, but he didn’t care, it wasn’t his flag.
Then you’re probably walking the streets like me.
You need to read better.
It was another Marine that confronted the Mexican Citizen.
Her role was going into the store manager to complain that his employee was not following the rules of the base.
So her daughter cried- children are sensitive about people attacking their parents. But I bet this eight yr old girl who cried will still be 10 times the adult this Mexican Citizen is.
Maybe his kneecaps should be broken so at least he will have a good reason to not stand and show respect.

I also read post # 20 where she said she should have walked away, and so I stand by my original comment that she over-reacted.
Mind you, I'm not saying I wouldn't have done exactly what she did as I can be a hot head too.
But after sleeping on it, would I have still be pushing the envelope? Would I have ranted out my feelings in a vanity?

You and the good Marines were absolutely right to be angry and give that illegal hell! If we were in the illegal’s country and showed disrespect for his flag, you could bet there would be trouble. I’m fed up with these illegals that come here, spit on us, act like their entitled to the moon, and our PC government, courts, media kow-tow to them.
Bravo to you and the Marines at your base! You are wonderful Americans, all of you!

However, for this being immigration related, there are many immigrants serving in the American Armed Forces this second, and you could find plenty of American natives (often of the liberal persuasion) who would act the same way as this Mexican.
And tarring all immigrants (or Mexican immigrants) for this one rude man is absurd.

Would you want foreigners to base their opinions of you based on the actions of a few of your countrymen?
i.e. Would you want Mexicans to base their opinions of Americans on American adolescents in Cancun? Or Europeans basing their opinions on the movie celebrities who seem to loiter there?
If not, then you shouldn't base your opinions on all Mexican immigrants, much less all immigrants, on this one jerk (or 'aggressively defensive' man, as he may be).
Personally very figuratively hot-tempered. Something to work on, but a part of [fallen] human nature.
I’m hot-tempered, too. :-) That’s the reason why I said, “Maybe he was being defensive because the Marine ripped into him.” I’ve been involved in incidents where someone yelled at me first, and then I flew into a rage.
But I wasn’t there for this incident on the military base. Maybe the Marine spoke politely and firmly at first, and when the guy responded disrespectfully, he ripped into him. If so, then they were right to be angry with him.
