A Saudi archaeologist... claims the Dilmun civilisation marked the first day of the year by the summer solstice, which falls today and every year on June 21. The theory is based on a discovery made by Dammam Regional Museum archaeologist Nabiel Al Shaikh in 1996, while he was conducting an excavation with a British team of archaeologists. At the site, he found an ancient temple with an oddly positioned triangular corner room, which he claims was used as an astronomical device to measure the position of the sun. He believes that during the summer solstice the sun would set over the corner of the temple - letting priests know it was the beginning of the New Year... The main obstacle to the archaeologist's theory is that the sun no longer sets over the corner of the temple, but is off by about 10 degrees. However, Mr Al Shaikh says the discrepancy could be explained by the movement of tectonic plates, erosion and soft sand beneath the settlement.

Gods, Graves, Glyphs (alpha order)
Never underestimate the power of stupid people to come up with a “new” idea. Just to get their names in the media.
Since the temple was built by the survivors of Atlantis’ descendants 10,000 years ago, movement in the earth’s axis could account for the 10 degree deviation.
:’) Posnansky claimed Tiahuanaco was built as early as 15,000 BC, and tried to prop that up using some kind of solar alignment. He said here’s the alignment, but it doesn’t work now, it would only line up 17,000 years ago, voila, I’ve proved the city is that old. Neil Steede has refined that number to about 7000 BC. And of course, there’s no texts at the site which reveal that any astronomical alignments were in use, so that’s all imaginary anyway. Radiocarbon dates of the site run back to about 400 AD. Estimated abandonment was around 1000 AD.
:’) That explains the field of Dhimmicrat candidates for the presidency...
Future archaeological suprises I've predicted for South America will include Tiahuanaco.

whoops.
