As TVNewser first reported yesterday, Fox News sent a letter to John Ferriter, agent of weekend anchor Kiran Chetry, blasting the pair's contract demands and severing relations with his client. Fox and Chetry were in the middle of contract renegotiations.
Fox News legal VP Dianne Brandi writes:
You have treated Fox News with such arrogant disregard that we do not desire to do any further business with you. You refused to enter into good faith negotiations despite your client's statements that she wanted to remain at Fox News and was happy with the renumeration we had offered. You and your client's unprofessional demand that we include a clause in her new agreement which would have been detrimental to other Fox News talent is simply not the way we conduct business.
What was the demand? A TVNewser source speculates it could've had something to do with Chris Knowles, Chetry's husband and Fox News weatherman. (Nah, it won't be too awkward for Knowles in the office or anything. Not at all.)
The letter also stated that Chetry was "free to leave" before her contract expires on March 6.
Well, guess who showed up on CNN this morning filling in for Soledad O'Brien. Kiran Chetry.
No official hiring announcement has been made from CNN.
UPDATE: It's official.

I've only seen it once, but this is where Juliette hangs out these days:

I like Harris Faulkner. Excellent!
maybe because of what was typed for her to read , phrases like "unable of reading" for example :)
I'm disappointed. I like Kiran. CNN gets all FNC's throwaways.
Soixante neuf, n'est-ce pas?
Cheers!
What? No Julie Banderas?
Did you see the F&F where Brian Kilmeade stormed off the set after saying Kiran would be given her way as she always was? He was furious.
Nice boobs .......... FRegards
Thanks for the ping!
When did that happen?? Recently?? If so, there may have been personality conflicts with Brian and Kiran that would have made it uncomfortable for them to work together every morning. In that case, Fox would not have paired the two together as Brian (and Steve) make the show and they could not afford to lose Brian.
And she is so, so politically correct.
E.D. Hill was the star of that show, and the chemistry between her, Brian and Steve was terrific. However, times change, E.D. has her own show and Fox and Friends in no longer worth watching. Brian Kilmeade is also very conservative, as E.D. is, and has a lot more ability than one sees in that format. Also, he does not seem all that comfortable with Gretchen - not like when E.D. was on.
And maybe is a really wonderful person and a class act as people have said. I don't know her so I don't know. All I do know is I watched her almost everyday for 2 years to see if she could get through a few sentences without stumbling over her words, and never did - not once.
She may be a great person but I watched her almost everyday for 2 years to see if she could get through a few sentences without stumbling over her words, and never did - not once. You can't blame that on the teleprompter. A newsreader has to be able to cope with errors on it - pros like Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doosey do it all the time with humor or some other way.
Awesome! He needs his own show on Fox!
Yes, I agree, Steve is a very conservative family man, but doesn't seem ready to stand up for his views the way Brian does. Plus, Brian is a lot smarter, I think, and a lot quicker on his toes. On 9/11 Brian completely took charge and became a de facto anchorman, making commentary, cutting in and out to various field reports - I mean, he was the anchor and extremely good at it.
I live in Asia probably 12 hours ahead of most Freepers, so I not really up on the Fox schedule. A lot of what I see are repeats, and now I get the Redeye show instead of much of that (hated it for the first week but it is growing on me). Anyway, I thought E.D. had her own show, but maybe she doesn't anymore.
I don't know how the Fox and Friends ratings are now, but I agree with you that with Gretchen there it is painful to watch, and there seems to be a lot of tension. Maybe not obvious to everyone, but sure is to people that used to view it when E.D. was there and it was so clear how close the three of them were. That was really magic - it's pretty rare to see people mesh like that on TV, but they could have done a lot better than Gretchen - Kiran, for example!
Banderas isn't a lefty.
I like Lauren, too.
