this weeks "navy times" came out. it had the usual articles in it. one very touching one about the last carrier operations of the f-14s. then.....
please raise your hand if you were ever in the service. keep it up if you ever participated in solving the unit, command, and world problems, around th butt can or over (many) drinks.
in his infinite wisdom, adm hering has decided that his command needs some alcohol restrictions put on it. no drinking under 21. 3 drink limit. lets see....you can go to war and be shot at when you reach the age of 18, or 17 with your parents permission, but you can't drink on base. am i the only one who sees a problem with that?
then there is smoking. A STUDY HAS BEEN DONE that shows people who enlist and smoke more than 1 pack a day when they enlist, are more apt to not finish their first enlistment thus costing the military money.
flash to the military....expensive toilet seats and screw drivers you can get by without. people you need. how picky can you afford to be?
when i went to LA last year, the conditions were pretty primitive. those of us who smoke, were smoking more, and those who had quit, were picking it back up. now, compared to being shot at, our conditions were great! you want to tell a young soldier or sailor they can't smoke for stress relief?
smoking is bad for you. i just quit again. drinking in excess is bad for you. i don't do it any more. i can not imagine having gone through my military career with out both of those diversions. different people choose different ways to relieve stress.
i also can not imagine what my sea stories would be like if i had to remove from my experiences things like; crossing the quarter deck trying to act sober (and thinking i'd done a good job of it), only to find out that i'd gotten a black eye running into the bulkhead that same night.
i do not think that the military should encourage smoking and drinking. i do not mind if drinking is restricted where there is a proven problem. restricting areas for smoking and non? fine idea. allowing candy ass academy grads to turn the finest military in the world into a PC, dry, and smoke free, organization....sure, and then we can join up with the EU and sing "we are the world...."
You don't advocate your cause terribly well.
Buh bye....
Could'a fooled me.
You really might want to spend a little time working on that capitalization if you're really trying to make a point here.
You do have a point.
FWIW, I don't know if my old buddy is a FReeper but I remember him telling me he could drink his commanding officers under the table. Sharing hangover-war stories with his superiors made him popular. And popularity sometimes has its advantages in the military.
I think his point is that a drinking age of 21 is stupid, especially in the military.
You wasted your first post on this mumbo jumbo?
"those of us who smoke, were smoking more, and those who had quit, were picking it back up."
Can I get me a thunderous...
BUSH'S FAULT!!!!!
due yew have a broken shift kee? or r u just lazy?
i have been writing these since the first bbs's came out. have never used caps and never will. it is a recognized style.
our early ways gave birth to the internet that you now enjoy.
yep, the military is obviously over-reacting where no problem exsists
you convinced me
Prepare for some friendly fire.
Just keep your head down for a bit and you'll be fine.
Worst title ever.
Not using a perfectly good shift key makes you look like an IDIOT.
I'm just sayin'.
LOL!
IBTZ
Ditto.
Ya beat me to it. I was gonna post that.
