Well, according to L'Equipe itself, the lab's been leaking to them about the over-the-top 1:11 T/E levels & that the testosterone is of exogenous (synthetic) origin.

Well there you go... hadn't read that. Thanks, leilani.

Upon further reflection:You are right. Maybe I shouldn't be condemning the lab if it is some jerk at L'Equipe making all of this up & their lab "source" is non-existent.That's a distinct possibility. But this lab's reputation is pretty shaky, as the UCI report on the Lance/EPO leak investigation indicated it refused to elaborate on it's protocols, etc. There's enough doubt about a non-scientific agenda there that renders their credibility at least a little suspect. But if Floyd has his reps there to confirm the validity of the "B" testing, I do think he's sunk. (I'm assuming the sample sealing process is good enough that tampering could be exposed.)

I realized I hadn't posted the (relative)confirmation I had found about the L'Equipe story in their Fri edition. It's here
at procycling.com. Sorry, meant to put this up earlier. This piece have dueling experts about the IRMS (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry) test that the lab in question uses to detect synthetic testosterone. Seems there's debate about
that too. Sigh.

UCI requests expedited handling of Landis case By AFP
This report filed July 31, 2006
The Union Cycliste Internationale demanded on Monday the "B" sample of Tour de France winner Floyd Landis be tested so that the doping scandal could be resolved sooner rather than later.
The 30-year-old American is facing the loss of his title and a two year ban after he returned a positive test for abnormal levels of testosterone following his win in the 17th stage of the Tour earlier this month.
However while Landis has protested his innocence the UCI moved on Monday to hasten up the process - by asking the laboratory Châtenay-Malabry to go ahead and test the "B" sample as Landis has failed to ask them himself - as they believe a quick solution to the affair would be better for the sport.

Why do you think he hasn't asked yet? Delaying doesn't make him look good, unless they are trying to line up experts to help monitor?

Guys, while I will continue to support Landis until the truth is out, I'm beginning to have my doubts cause this isn't adding up.
What was all the mystery surrounding his "disappearance" when the story first broke? A question that ultra lame interviewer Larry King did not ask. Why was he not on the phone with Fox News/CNN that afternoon? I kind of see a pattern of calculation on Landis's part.
In the Larry King interview Landis mentioned that he had to request the second test and had five days to do so. He said something like "right now I'm deciding how to handle all this.". I thought, 'what is there to think about?' Also, Landis looked really nervous in that interview. Much more tense than his doctor, and at one point he wiped sweat off his forehead. Does this mean anything? I don't know, but I believe I now see a pattern emerging.
Another question, why is Landis not on the offensive if he rocked stage 17 all by himself? If he is innocent, he has the world's worst PR. I remember Armstrong was out clearing his good name constantly.

Dunno, leilani. One again, we have to keep in mind that most of what we've seen thus far is "he said / they said", although it appears that this time it is UCI saying that Landis hasn't requested the test yet.
Then there's the question of whether or not Phonak can make the request to do the 'B' test on a weekend.

But then one also has to ask - why didn't UCI follow their own rules, and give Landis the 5 days to request the additional test? The fact that all of France goes on holiday this Friday is significant, and would result in this dangling in the breeze for several weeks, but does that trump allowing Landis due process? There's probably compelling reasons to wait until the 5 days to request - lining up your own experts, as you or Vision mentioned, is one of them.

I have to agree that his PR has stunk from the get go. But there is the possibility that he's just not as worldly as Lance Armstrong. By all accounts, he didn't have the retinue of advisors and handlers that Lance did.If you're unsophisticated & you don't have those people around, what do you do? I guess you kind of flail around for a while in disbelief. I don't know that I would characterise him as nervous so much as overwhelmed. But I'm not deluding myself here. He could very well have made the biggest, dumbest mistake of his life.If he did do it, I just want the people who nail him for it to do it in a way where we can all trust the validity of the outcome.

I believe Landis had 5 days from date the story broke to request the test. If so, isn't his time about up? And if he's arranging his own experts, why isn't he saying this publicly?
This is so confusing.

But if he's innocent, what does he need advisors for? Get out there and attack with the truth. Or call Lance and go from there.

The article said:
If the UCI had stood by and waited till Wednesday for Landis to appeal for the B sample to be tested the result would not be known for several weeks as the laboratory shuts for the holidays at week's end.
Presumably that's the deadline. Story started hitting the wires here last Wed night / Thurs AM? Thurs-Wed would be 5 business days. One might also note that the deadline indicates when Landis/Phonak were notified, so it's obvious that the leaker(s) wasted no more than a few nano-seconds before they picked up the phone...

Those advisors will help him identify the truth with which to attack... I'm thinking that Floyd's not much of a biochemist, at least not of the professional variety.

You need advisors to get experts on the phone to explain the results, quanitfy what they mean, figure out what the implications are, set up press conferences.Lance was on a bike in the middle of Iowa & they weren't on the best of terms. I'm willing to cut him some slack on not knowing what the hell to do at first. But he needs to get on the ball, I agree.Lance went after 'em like a bulldog. Then again, he had a lot of experience with it, too.

Looks like commish posted the 1st 'unnamed rider' article on Wed, 7/26. I know, I know, it just seems like this has been going on for months....
I remember when leilani was posting about how she wasn't looking forward to 'Tour withdrawal' and she was gonna miss hanging around with us, I think I posted something back to the effect of 'No worries, we'll still have a few more Landis feel-good articles to discuss, and then his surgery to follow...'
Little did I know.... :>(
