Women Like Funny Men

Women Like Funny Men--The Study: “The influence of humor on desirability,” Evolution and Human Behavior, Jan. 2006

The Findings: Psychologists Eric Bressler and Sigal Balshine enlisted 210 undergraduate psychology students at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, to consider, for class credit, photographs of campus peers. Each photo was paired with a remark that was ostensibly funny (“My high school was so rough, we had our own coroner”) or ostensibly dull (“I like having friends over for dinner”). Women found the “funny” men most desirable, and a follow-up study showed that men preferred women who were receptive to their jokes.

Why Bother? The scientists acknowledged in their paper the well-established observation that “humor is . . . more readily appreciated in the presence of others” but wondered why it is that women prefer funny guys. Could the phenomenon be a matter of Darwinian survival? The lead scientist declined an interview, but the paper suggests that studies like it further our understanding of evolution by pinpointing which human traits might confer survival advantages. One theory is that men may “produce humor more” to help “monopolize the reproductive potential of more than one woman,” a.k.a. to spread their genes.

Sandra Bernhard

she's got a weird hot sexy case of the uglies

she's doable

For someone who by all accounts should be considered ugly, she strangely attractive.

I think it's that disheveled, "I just got some," look that she always has....

Oh Geez.... Thanks for the support guys!

Well, you know how those Christians are. No levity is allowed in Church at all. Everything having to do with the praise and worship of the Christian G-d must be solemn and serious dontcha know. And since it's actually in the Bible that a woman must be kept barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen you won't find any caring men there, so ...

Oh, MAN, the liberal Kool-Aid is starting to take hold. I'm going to have to go take an Ann Coulter antidote. Back soon.

Shalom.

Actually, I understand that the studios tried hard to sell Lucille Ball as a femme fatale (sp? I can't spell French words very well) before finding out how funny she was.

Shalom.

I've seen her in an early dramatic role. She wasn't bad, but comedy is definitely her strong suit.

I think a lot of actress/comediennes were multitalented. But Rita Rudner had a point. She was a dancer, but she said that one day she noticed that George Burns was still working while it had been 20 years since Gene Kelly had a role. That's when she decided to try comedy!

Here's another funny beauty.

"So it's a GOOD thing when my wife laughs at my .. er .. uh .. performance?"

I don't know about that, but my wife laughed at your comment. (something about her not being the only one - I didn't catch it all)

There was once a huge starship, called the SS Titanic. It was a mighty cruise ship, set to sail the inky blackness of space.
The first voyage of the immense vessel came. Thousands of people on board - mostly the rich and famous, and of course, a large crew to cater for their every need.
As the ship set off, no-one realised that her fate was just around the corner.
She flew around the galaxy, visiting several resort planets, before heading towards her last solar system. As she arrived, everyone found themselves looking in horror as the star exploded in front of their eyes - a supernova.
Of course, everyone was killed, and although search parties spent several years looking, nothing was ever found of the great ship, except for a single twisted, half-molten chunk of metal that had come from the toolkit of one of the ship's engineers.
The chunk of metal was put on display in a museum dedicated to the memory of the ship.
It became known as the Star-Mangled Spanner.

The latest celebrity on television is a Russian, going by the name of Rudolph, who has taken the weather forecasting world by storm. He seems to have an incredible and uncanny knack of not just getting the forecast correct, but being amazingly accurate, sometimes even being able to tell where the rain will fall down to the nearest mile or so.
His fame was enhanced by his personality - being Russian, he had some unique turns of phrase. He was also a fanatical communist.
One day, one of his younger fans was watching with his parents. Young James turned to his mother, and asked "How does he manage to get the weather forecast so good?"
His mother thought for a bit and said, "I'm not sure, but one thing's for certain - Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear."
