The TV networks are getting edgier in their '06 pilot plans.
The nets have filled their development slates with a bevy of brave ideas and bold format experiments, VARIETY reports on Monday, including shows about THE END OF AMERICA!
ABC alone has at least two would-be shows set in post-apocalyptic America ("Resistance" and "Red & Blue") while Gavin Polone and Bruce Wagner are teaming for the comfy-sounding plague drama "Four Horsemen" at CBS (which also is developing "Jericho," about life in a small town after America is destroyed).
Says Fox exec VP Craig Erwich: "The creative community appears to be really inspired this year," he says. "It was an exciting time to be buying. I came away pretty encouraged about network TV."

What is flooping? Possibly an addition to the language meaning flopping and being broadcast over and over anyway.

Folks, this scenario might lend itself to a conservative view of what is going on now. Assume the scenario is that the peacenik dims gain control in '06 and '08 and promptly negotiate "peace in our time" with the islamofascists, who promptly nuke us into obscurity. Would Europe or our Asian allies come to our aid? Hardly. So what would be left but a crippled and toothless giant?
It's like Niven/Pournelle's Fallen Angels, where the premise is that global warming is real and the Greens take control and put in the "right programs" to cure everything. Only then do they discover that global warming is the only thing keeping THE ICE AGE AT BAY.
There are possiblities here. I want to know who's making these things. Think about the folks at 24. Despite their bowing to preassure from CAIR they are big fans of Rush Limbaugh. Could something be afoot?

First off, I do have to say I do love my country.
But, I do see a time when there won't be a United States of America. When I was younger I used to be more cynical and think it would happen in my life time. I'm a little wiser now and think it'll take longer than that.
Or, at the very least, I see a weaker United States. I see a US as a non-super power, or a second tier super power. (mainly because of liberalism, and the growing threat of a Chinese/Russian super power, the growing consolidation of a liberal Europe, and a constant threat of Islmofacism.)
And since I can see that, I see where it would be interesting to write about, as a writer.
It'd be interesting to see what life would be like in a small town in a second rate U.S. It's not something many of us have ever contemplated.
For the record, I think these shows will fail miserablly because people won't want to see the U.S. portrayed that way... but I'd be interested in seeing what somebody's vision would be.

Waterworld was good compared to that movie.

I wonder how Martin Sheen reacted to his son playing a role of an anticommunist guerrilla?

I tend to agree with you. But I don't think this is an inevitable situation, at least for the near future. American national strength is still salvageable. We just need to play our cards right.

Time for a redo of "Red Dawn".

More propaganda. It seems to work for the liberals unfortunately.

Didn't ABC try something rather similar in 1987 with their post WWIII "Amerika" where the US lost???
And wasn't that an undisputed Turd-In-A-Punchbowl???
Can either ABC or CBS be seriously be gambling with their faltering ratings with such garbage?
Jack.

Again and again the left compare the modern era to McCarthyism.
They claim that the Red Scare of the 1940s and 50s was just that, paranoia. That the Communists (who stole the atomic bomb secrets from America) didn't mean us any harm.
Now today they lie nightly about the president, the administration, the war, and conservatives. They scare the public about Dem Evil Republicans.
OH it is like "McCarthyism" alright, but it isn't because of conservatives criticizing moderal liberals, it is because of the partisan witchhunt of Democrats attacking Republicans (elected and voters).
ENOUGH ALREADY.
End ZOGBYISM now.

Gotta plan ahead. Most networks have the outline to the show of every death they consider important enough to do something about, and of course a list of all the people and things for those outlines. Doing a two hour TV show with good edits takes time, the more of that time you do up front the better. The Pentagon does the same thing, they have invasion plans to every identifiable chunk of land on the planet, just in case.
