First off, I do have to say I do love my country.
But, I do see a time when there won't be a United States of America. When I was younger I used to be more cynical and think it would happen in my life time. I'm a little wiser now and think it'll take longer than that.
Or, at the very least, I see a weaker United States. I see a US as a non-super power, or a second tier super power. (mainly because of liberalism, and the growing threat of a Chinese/Russian super power, the growing consolidation of a liberal Europe, and a constant threat of Islmofacism.)
And since I can see that, I see where it would be interesting to write about, as a writer.
It'd be interesting to see what life would be like in a small town in a second rate U.S. It's not something many of us have ever contemplated.
For the record, I think these shows will fail miserablly because people won't want to see the U.S. portrayed that way... but I'd be interested in seeing what somebody's vision would be.

I tend to agree with you. But I don't think this is an inevitable situation, at least for the near future. American national strength is still salvageable. We just need to play our cards right.
