The following are excerpts from an interview with Dr. Abd Al-Baset Al-Sayyed of the Egyptian National Research Center. Al-Majd TV aired this interview on January 16, 2005
Dr. 'Abd Al-Baset Sayyid: The centrality [of Mecca] has been proven scientifically. How? When they traveled to outer space and took pictures of the earth, they saw that it is a dark, hanging sphere. The man said, "Earth is a dark hanging sphere – who hung it?"

Dr. 'Abd Al-Baset Sayyid: [Neil] Armstrong. Armstrong was basically trying to say: Allah is the one who hung it. They discovered that Earth emits radiation, and they wrote about this on the web.

In the British Museum there are three pieces of the black stone [from the Ka'ba] …and they said that this rock didn't come from our solar system.

I know that this reply comes a little late, but it is only by chance that I have come across your comments about the extreme way in which you think that Muslims will defend the Kaaba in Mecca. Mecca is not the centre of Islam, but it is a signifier of its history and importance. A Muslim is not a terrorist and a terrorist is not a Muslim. Killing in all forms except in war is completely forbidden in Islam. To kill one person is just like killing all people. Islam is a peaceful religion but it is those extremists who call themselves Muslims who give a bad name to Islam. People should learn about Islam before making false judgements and accusations about it. Instead of blaming Islam for the terror acts that have taken place, one should blame those who commit those horrible acts in the name of Islam
