Thanks!

I find it an odd and wonderful coincidence that the biblical parable about the proper way to invest referred to a unit called a talent.

Happy Sunday, Warsaw.

You have a great collection of pictures. That is a wonderful picture of a beautiful lady. It makes you want Paul Harvey to come here with the Rest of the Story.

Happy 4th to you and yours!

For All Our Heroes

They all fought for the Red, White and Blue.
The white men, the black men, the Indians too.
They were all heroes, or so it is said,
When the blood flowed, it was all crimson red.
They all fought for freedom, side by side,
Some of them lived, and too many died.
They were all valiant soldiers, every man,
They gave what they had, to the last stand.
We shouldn’t forget them, not one single soul,
And we should make sure their story is told.
They fought for the freedom of every man,
Their bravery is known, across our great land.
For those up in heaven, or hell here on Earth,
We all thank our fathers, for our life since birth.
They all are our heroes, a much treasured lot,
And we should thank them for all we have got.
So raise up your hands, give thanks to a-high
For all the brave soldiers who lived and died.
As our lives go on, and in freedom we live,
We thank every soldier, for what he could give.

For our Heroes... We'll stand up for them and give an account that they are there in our stead.

United in Prayer

Hands interlocked nationwide
united in prayer side by side

We bow our heads to God above
cause Americans count on his undying love

God keep our soldiers as they fight this war
and in the end let the eagle soar

The Sniper

Since before the days of ball and powder
My Brothers and I have been
Patiently waiting and judging the winds
Around terrain long distances away

My lineage dates back to before Long Bowmen
Seeking leaders behind enemy ranks three deep
Studying the grass as it bends 'round fetlocks and leather shod feet
Watching the arrow arc a mounted leader falls dead in a heap

Flintlocks and muskets replaced Man Tall bows
In America's War of Revolution the British experienced such woes
As my forebears fired from behind trees and river banks
Selecting the mounted officers from the marching ranks

Marines helped the French at Belleau Wood
Showed the Hun a thing or two
About Aimed Fire and the fear that a shot from the blue
May be personally addressed to you!

Nearly every platoon in the Second World War
Had a shooter better than most
That the soldier usually hearkened from Southern Hills
Is something for all soldiers to remember and boast

Korea had its shooters too
Though their hits may no be recoded in time
For time is what the bullets bought
At the Frozen Chosin and Chesty Puller in his prime

Vietnam brought forth the stealthiest breed
Cross the border. North of Ku Chi the Meat Grinder
Though slightly east of the DMZ and Co Rok
Whose God at the top of the Pyramid was named Sgt. Carlos Hathcock

'Tis an exclusive club I am a part of
And to their Heritage I shal remain true
My targets are the Largest Threat and Unit Cohesion
My task is to keep the both unglued!

Independence?

The Lady holds a tablet. There is a date engraved.
July 4, 1776. A memo that we saved.
Within that page of History, we hold the American Rose.
Pressed by weight of moments, the album now we close,

To mark the beginning of Man’s finest striving,
Wherein heroes, villains, and events were arriving,
At a small town we call Philly, (That’s where we keep the bell.)
To speak their piece, and start a war, and put them all through Hell.

It was a needed moment. We had to take our place,
Among the giants of the earth, for Life stepped up the pace.
We had to shoulder burdens, that no one else could bear,
And send the finest of our land, to fix things ‘over there.’

The blood we shed has nourished the Freedom that we sowed,
And gave the homeland back ten-fold, all debts that we had owed.
Just to ensure survival of the plantings that we nourished.
We went back for a second time, to make sure that it flourished.

We thought that we could take a break, and live a private life,
Unburdened by the problems of the world and all its strife.
But this small world kept shrinking, and our moat gives no protection,
From enemies who should be friends, except for their infection.

We’ll need to cure their illness, whatever the cost may be,
Or we will not enjoy the life we have, a life of liberty.
It’s not enough to shine a light beside the door,
We have to go among them, and boost the ‘yearnings’ of the poor.

The Fourth

We celebrate with barbeque, parades, and fireworks too.
But ask the average teenager, “Why all of this, we do?”
They’ll say because it is the Fourth, as if you are a fool.
The answer may be even worse, if they’re in public school.
Explain to them, it is the day we Declared Independence.
We defeated tyranny and still we must defend this.
Our freedoms are at risk each day, from without and within.
It takes our constant vigilance, as freedom we defend.
We must protect all that we have, so many fought to give.
Keep our country free and brave, it is the way to live.
Pray to God, that we will win the fight to keep us strong.
With His Grace we will defeat whatever comes along.
Happy Independence Day, this fourth day of July.
I celebrate it every day, I hope that you see why.

America Grows On You

English is so wonderful because of one main thing,
Whatever works for someone else we take under our wing.
It’s just a big tar-baby, which spreads itself around,
And no one who gets hold of it can ever put it down.

America is like that too, we take in lots of things,
Shoes and ships, and sealing wax, and cabbages and kings.
Banana pudding in the South, and curling way up north,
These things that started elsewhere always seem to sally forth.

America is not just U. S. It’s bigger far than that,
A way of thinking and of living large, no matter where you’re at.
America keeps growing and the world shrinks every day,
It’s clear that everyone will soon be seeing things our way.

Some seem to think that’s frightening, they couldn’t be more wrong,
We don’t want to stifle them, we want to hear their song.
In Ireland, folks stay enemies until they both are old,
But both of you come over here, and you’ll laugh at jokes he’s told.

We don’t have room for enmity, our eyes are looking far.
The limit isn’t down the road, it’s past the nearest star.
Don’t worry that we’re out to just absorb you in our scheme,
We don’t build empires quite that way. America builds your dream.

And So, Fourth!

I have a place above the fray,
To watch the traffic whiz each way.
On Holidays, and celebrations,
They ignore my exhortations.

The ones down South must proceed North,
While westerners do sally forth,
To prove that they are clearly best,
At taking spots of those gone West.

So much scurrying, by and large,
Proves Chaos is the one in charge,
And when the dust has settled down,
It’s so much calmer here in town.

The madding crowd has taken flight,
And left us in our lonely plight,
To nod to neighbors like ourselves,
Who find contentment here on shelves,

Remembering the bygone ways,
When celebrations claimed our days.
We had our cookouts, made some drink,
And we knew what the neighbor’d think.

For he was there to toast with us,
And not grow fretful at the fuss.
We’d chat across the backyard fence,
Enjoying a Day of Independence.

Independence Day
-- by ABE - Copyright 1997 --

In the year of 1776
That paper was decreed -
They were tired of oppression
And wanted to be freed .

They wrote a Declaration
So the whole world would see -
This was, "the home of the brave
And the land of the free".

They signed that piece of parchment
The leaders of this land -
Knowing, divided they would fall
But, together they could stand.

A new world lay before them
Untamed from shore to shore -
They swore the would protect it
If it meant going to war.

Battles have been fought -
And many lives have been lost -
So sad something so basic
Has such a high, high cost.

'Seems freedom is a luxury
There's some would bind us all -
Like then, together, we can stand
But divided, we will fall.

More than two hundred years
Have past by since that day
That each of us celebrate
In our own different way.

We should be proud and thankful
Pay our share of the cost -
Not take freedom for granted
For it easily could be lost.

Freedom

Freedom isn’t free you know,
It isn’t even cheap.
Many paid the highest price,
So freedom, we could keep.
Soldiers fought and soldiers died,
In many foreign lands.
In forest deep and thick with snow,
And even desert sands.
We fought at sea and in the air,
The battle rages still.
We must back our troops today,
And show we have the will.
To stay the course until it’s done,
And then again we’ll see.
That freedom still belongs to us,
But never is it free.
