Come Back

Read:
Amos 4:4-13

"You have not returned to Me," says the Lord. —Amos 4:6

Bible In One Year: Amos 4-6

cover The Old Testament book of Amos has given us some memorable phrases: "Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (3:3). "Pre-pare to meet your God" (4:12). "Let justice run down like water" (5:24).

But the most-repeated phrase in Amos occurs five times in chapter 4. Time after time the Lord speaks of all He has done to discipline His wayward, self-indulgent people and draw them back to Himself. In every case the response is the same: "'You have not returned to Me,' says the Lord" (Amos 4:6,8-11).

As we read and marvel at their hardness of heart, we must also ask if the same could be true of us. If we have sensed that the Lord has been trying to get our attention, how have we responded to Him?

The prophecy of Amos contains warnings of judgment, captivity, and destruction. Yet there are calls for repentance and promises of restoration: "Seek good and not evil, that you may live; so the Lord God of hosts will be with you" (5:14).

The book of Amos has many memorable phrases, but we should never forget God's invitation to all who have wandered away from Him: Return to Me.

If you haven't returned, do it now. —David McCasland

I've strayed, O Lord, and turned aside,
I've disobeyed Your voice;
But now with contrite heart I turn
And make Your will my choice. —D. De Haan

True repentance turns from the wrong and returns to the right.

Inscriptions- "Korean War Veterans Memorial 1950-1953,"
"The Forgotten War,"
names of all Washingtonians killed,
informational plaques.

The two-ton memorial was set in place using a helicopter in early July, 1993. It was officially dedicated later that same month.

The memorial originally contained the names of 523 Washington residents killed in Korea, with more names added in 1994, 1998, and 1999.

Coffee Chocolate Cheesecake

Ingredients:
Crust:
1 1/3 cups chocolate wafer cookie crumbs
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

Filling:
3 large eggs
3 tablespoons instant coffee
2 8 oz packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, melted
1/2 cup sour cream

Glaze:
1/2 cup whipping cream
1 tablespoon instant coffee
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
Chocolate curls, for garnish

Preparation instructions:
CRUST:
Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix the crumbs and butter in a small bowl. Press the mixture evenly onto the bottom of a 9-inch round springform pan. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.

FILLING:
Stir the eggs and instant coffee in a small bowl until well blended; set aside. Beat the cream cheese and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer set on medium speed until well blended. Add the egg mixture and mix until blended. Beat in the melted chocolate and the sour cream.
Pour the mixture over the crust. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until the center is almost set. Run a knife or a metal spatula around the edge of the pan. Cool the cheesecake completely on a wire rack. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.

GLAZE:
Stir the cream and instant coffee in a medium microwavable bowl until well blended. Add the chocolate. Microwave on High for 2 minutes, stirring halfway through cooking time. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Spoon the glaze evenly over the cheesecake. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until ready to serve. Garnish with chocolate curls, if desired. Cut into slices to serve

Great find with the newspapers from that time. Thank you.

I'm not sure why that war was lost between WWII and VietNam.

Thanks for the info, Snugs.

Have a nice evening.

"Cash, check or charge?" the cashier asked after folding items the woman wished to purchase.
As the woman fumbled for her wallet, the cashier noticed a remote control for a television set in her purse.

"Do you always carry your TV remote?" the cashier asked.

"No," she replied. "But my husband refused to come shopping with me, so I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him."
