Graphic by Billie
The water is cool and as still as glass
I see myself as ripples swirl out and away
With each delicious little sip
Hunger is still there, yet thirst is worse
Stomach pangs can be forced away
Thirst is forever and that's a curse
With water there's food to scent and track
While I think of that future day's attack
The ripples are disturbed now... "Who are you?"
"I am a Mule Deer just like you.
I was lost in a storm without a clue
Until I smelled this water on the ridge.
I thought I'd take a chance. Do you mind?"
"Of course not, there's enough for all.
It flows a long way under a bridge.
And to the east there is a gorgeous tree line
Full of shoots and berries for us to find!"
"Us?" my new friend asked
"Sure," I said. "We'll halve the task
Of finding more than enough food
For us and others.
"It is summer now and this stream will soon be abuzz
Don't ask me why. It's just because.
With countless Raccoons, Opossum, Cardinals, Geese Moccasins, Beaver and Does.
"Animals that swim, fly and slither, most though walk.
We all need a place to get together.
To talk, no matter what the weather.
To begin our stalk and this season so quickly goes!"

Happy Shavu'ot!
"Shavu'ot, the Festival of Weeks, is the second of the three major festivals with both historical and agricultural significance (the other two are Passover and Sukkot). Agriculturally, it commemorates the time when the first fruits were harvested and brought to the Temple, and is known as Hag ha-Bikkurim (the Festival of the First Fruits). Historically, it celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, and is also known as Hag Matan Torateinu (the Festival of the Giving of Our Torah)."

A Rainbow Trailing Me
Roger Mangrum
Zig-zagging two thousand feet and more
down a craggy, slippery, dusty trail
along the Yosemite, Upper Fall
from where did I stand
saw I a spectacular broad band!
Of plunging, crashing waters
in exquisite colors, all in radiant hues
in shimmering, breezy blues
between the deepest purple showers
and in misty greens and yellows
All seemed in another place, in another time
Ah! she was there and she was mine
such a sight to behold, she held my heart!
And as I trekked on down
I turned around to see
a rainbow trailing me
Saw I more
heart-rending color than before
this time, saw I passionate green
gleaming right at me!
I carried my enchanting rainbow
as long could I upon my back
so would I, not again need to turn back
to see rare beauty following
a rainbow trailing me

Think you're not the center of the universe?
What do you think the rainbow orbits?
You are the center of every rainbow you have ever seen. Maybe it isn't the center of the universe, but it's the center of something -- something BIG!

Physics, my dear Tulip. Elementary physics.
The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Isn't that a beautiful photo? I borrowed it from Google. It seemed the poem was written for that photo.
Welcome to Amy's Place. Thanks for coming by. Hope you come back soon.

I learn so much when I post the holidays. I had never heard of Shavuot before.
To: NicknamedBob
Well, I am the center of my own little world. ;-)

Hmmmmm ...... So the rainbow orbits me? Now that is interesting.
Wonder who I can snow with this info?
Happy Monday, NnB. Have a great week.

I learn a lot when you post the holidays too.
There are so many of these that are new to me. While looking for graphics, I read the description. I may not remember what Shavuot is, but if someone mentions it, I will know that it is a Jewish Holiday.
I also enjoy the silly ones. I especially like chocolate days. :)

The Jewish tradition on Shavuot is to eat dairy foods.
Chocolate Marble Cheesecake
From the Kinnereth Cookbook
Base:
1 3/4 cups crushed graham wafer crumbs 425 mL
1/4 cup finely ground walnuts 60 mL
1/4 cup granulated sugar 60mL
1/2 cup melted butter 125mL
Combine ingredients and blend. Grease sides of 9" - 10" (22.5 - 25 cm) springform pan. Press crumbs on bottom and up sides of pan to top. Reserve about three tablespoons (45mL) of crumbs for topping.
Filling:
2 pounds cream cheese 900g
2 teaspoons vanilla 10mL
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 375mL
6 eggs
2 cups light cream (half and half) 500mL
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
Preheat oven to 450 °F (230 °C). Beat cream cheese and vanilla together until fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar. Add eggs one at a time stirring until just blended. Stir in half and half. Gradually stir 3 cups (750 mL) of batter into cooled melted chocolate and blend. Pour plain batter into prepared pan. Gradually add chocolate mixture using zigzag motion. Batter will be very loose. Top with reserved crumbs. Bake 15 minutes to set batter. Reduce heat to 300 °F (150 °C) and bake 70 minutes longer. Remove from oven. Cool on rack one hour. Chill. Can be frozen.
Serves 16.

We can work chocolate and cheescake into today's holiday. ;-)

The subject of this poem received her High School Diploma tonight!
My Shadow Grown
You stand with me, my shadow grown.
With patience that is not my own.
Your quiet smile of knowing glance ...
Some feckless boy wont stand a chance.
Could I start over, young and free,
I fear what might become of me,
But you are fearless, confident,
Youve not your fathers malcontent.
You have your own sweet reverie,
That Life rewards one cleverly,
With hidden treasures one must find,
By opening up a growing mind.
You understand that patience brings,
Appreciation in small things.
The storm dumps down on joyless days.
You find the iridescent glaze.
A parking lot, whose oily sheen,
Takes many passes to wash clean,
You find the beauty. Inside you,
There is a sunny point of view.
There is bad weather for each life,
Each of us must handle strife.
The path Ive followed will not show,
When your turn comes, which way to go.
When storms have come and they have passed,
That is the time for you at last,
As droplets wane and brightness grows,
To lift your head and find rainbows.
