Hurting And Hearing

Read:

When we are experiencing deep sorrow or difficult circumstances, we may feel offended if someone suggests that something good can emerge from our adversity. A well-meaning person who tries to encourage us to trust God's promises may be perceived as insensitive or even unrealistic.

That happened to the children of Israel when God was working for their deliverance from Egypt. As Pharaoh hardened his heart toward the Lord's command to let His people go, he increased the Hebrew slaves' workload by forcing them to gather the straw they needed to make bricks (Exodus 5:10-11). They became so discouraged, they couldn't accept Moses' assurance that God had heard their cries and promised to take them to a land of their own (6:9).

There are times when our hurts and fears can close our ears to the hopeful words of God. But the Lord doesn't stop speaking to us when it's hard for us to hear. He continues working on our behalf just as He did in delivering His people from Egypt.

As we experience God's compassion and His loving care, we can begin to hear again even as the hurt continues to heal. -David McCasland

"What is ouzo? sounds like something that seeps out of a cut in your arm..."

It is not produced in any other part of the world except Greece.
Ouzo, is a 100% Greek product and Greece's National drink.

The creation of ouzo is made from a precise combination of pressed grapes and herbs and berries. It begins as alcohol made from grape skins or other local produce. It is then brought together with herbs and other ingredients, including star anise, coriander, cloves, angelica root, licorice, mint, wintergreen, fennel, hazelnut and even cinnamon and lime blossom. The mixture is boiled in a copper still, regulated by a taster.

The resulting liquid is cooled and stored for several months before it is diluted to about 80 proof, or 40 per cent alcohol.

It is usually served as an aperitif, but is also used in some mixed drinks and cocktails.
When mixing Ouzo with water it will turn whitish and opaque. The reason is that the anise oil dissolves and becomes invisible when mixed with a usual alcohol content, but as soon as the alcohol content is reduced, the essential oils transform into white crystals, which you cannot see through.

The best Ouzo it is considered that of the island of Lesvos. Most cafe owners in Greece will admit that the best ouzo comes from this island and they probably carry one of the more popular Lesvos brands.

Ouzo drinking is an art. Or maybe it's a way of life.
Ouzo itself, symbolizes more than anything else, the Greek way of thinking. This way of thinking is based on optimism, in everyday practice of the philosophy, and the joy of life!


Maybe we should be celebrating Ouzo Day! :)

Well, April showers day is true to form here today !!!! Was to be mowing at this moment & I am here FReeping instead. I actually need the break. Hard work & little rest past few weeks. But I could clean house a little...much rather play in the dirt/yard then do anything inside the walls of the domestic/cleaning nature. I do love to cook though.

The M & Ms are at the gym working out in preparation.

In United States slang in the 1910s and early 1920s a Jelly bean or Jellybean was a young man who made great effort to dress very stylishly (usually to attract women) but had little else to recommend him; similar to the older terms dandy and fop and the slightly later drugstore cowboy. However, the word was also used as a synonym for pimp. (Today a "jelly bean" might be known as a metrosexual.)

The jelly bean type was memorialized in the song, "Jelly Bean (He's a Curbstone Cutie)", kept popular through the 1940s by Phil Harris. It was written by Jimmie Dupre, Sam Rosen, and Joe Verges, and published in New Orleans in 1920 by Universal Music Publishers, Inc.

Yes, Ouso has a licorce flavor. It's good as an after dinner drink because of that.

I'm still trying to get over what ever I came down with last Fri/Sat. I'm now dealing with coughing spells & what I think is a sinus infection. Still I will try to enjoy my day and hope you will also!
