THAT'S NOT MY HOUSE!, I DON'T HAVE A YELLOW TRUCK, but I know who does! (They won't let us have a mobile home in our yard either, or my hubby probably would drag one home. And the broken down car in the yard is red!)

TO THE MASTER!

Everyone has a favorite Alfred Hitchcock tale
From "Lifeboat" to "North By Northwest"
One could include "The Birds" and "Psycho"
If you enjoy scary goose bumped flesh
Though the tale I remember the best
Dates back to "Alfred Hitchcock Presents"
Where a harried housewife clubs her angry mate
With a frozen leg of lamb, such an ironic fate
While the detectives blissfully dine on the delicious evidence.

Jack.

That was based on an O'Henry story, I think. "Lamb to the Slaughter"

Mud Pie
Mama Dip's Kitchen - Mildred Council
University of North Carolina Press

Author's Note: This recipe makes two pies, but I don't think you'll have any problem getting rid of them at a family gathering.
1 box (18 1/4 ounces) German chocolate cake mix
1 stick margarine or butter, cut into pieces (4 ounces)
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, cut into pieces
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 cups chopped walnuts
1 can (3 1/2 ounces) flaked coconut
Grease two 9-inch pie pans. Prepare the cake batter according to package directions and spread evenly in the pans. In a saucepan over low heat, soften the cream cheese and margarine and combine well. Remove from heat and add the brown sugar, mixing well. Add the walnuts and coconut, stirring to mix. Using a spoon, place the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake batter. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
Each pie serves 8.

What yall got in yer mud down there in Alabama?...

ALABAMA MUD CAKE

INGREDIENTS:
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, with juice
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup mint chocolate chips
1/2 cup butter, sliced

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
Pour pineapple with juice into prepared pan, spreading evenly to make the first layer. Spread cherry pie filling over the pineapple layer, then spread the cake mix over the cherry pie filling. Sprinkle the cake mix layer with pecans and mint chocolate chips, then distribute the sliced butter evenly over the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.

I was trying to find it on Google. There is some confusion. It may be that both O'Henry and Roald Dahl wrote stories with this title, as perhaps did Ray Bradbury.

But the Hitchcock show may have come from the Roald Dahl piece. Here's a link.
