I am trying to find out if I can uninstall Quick Time.
I wanted to put this in General Chat. I'm sorry.
I've forgetten how to remove these . . . anyone have any suggestions?
Try that..
If it doesn't work, and what you have described is the case, then,
Chances are, it's NOT QuickTime, but a virus or SpyWare..
You will need to run some anti-spyware programs or anti-virus programs to rid yourself of your problem..
You've probably already tried this, but have you tried uninstalling Quick Time? Click on Start, click on Control Panel, double click on Add or Remove Programs, scroll down to and click on Quick Time in the Installed Programs List, click on Change/Remove, then click on Remove.
Thanks, both of you. I'm going to have a go at it.
Right-click on the icon and choose delete to get rid of it. Then you have to go into Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs and try to uninstall QT or any other annoying program.
Very same thing happened to me.
It is not listed on my Add/Remove programs.
I'm speaking of a program that I do not wish to remove from my hard drive. I simply want to remove the icon from the system tray. Right-clicking with 'Delete' only removes the icon until the next time I re-boot.
Same here. It does not show up. Also, clicking on the icon at the bottom does not include a "delete" or "end program" option. Hmmmm?
The surest way to clean thoroughly is to find a friend who is comfortable editing the registry and nuke all references there.
If it is not listed in Add-Remove Programs, it is likely spyware "in sheep's clothing"..
In this case, disquising itself as QT..
Spyware Removal and Spyware Protection is must these days..
Check out the following site for an explanation of what can be done about it..
Here's another site with available anti-spyware / anti-virus software.. Both commercial and free versions.. It is kept VERY up-to-date..
I hope this helps, and good luck..
My guess is that it is the latter. However, please see the disclaimer regarding phone answering ability. I would also mention that the electronics flyers included with local newspapers have become entirely unintelligible. Nevertheless, I appreciate the link to the tutorial. ;-)
Ok, if it's running in the systray (right side of the taskbar, assuming the bar is still on the bottom of your screen), try removing it via MSCONFIG (see post #13) & see what happens.
You're referring to the icons situated in the lower Right hand corner... That is the "task bar", and those are programs running in the background..
If you right-click on the task bar, (but to the left of the icons, not "on" them ) a menu will come up..
click on "task manager", then clik the "Processes" tab..
There will be a list of those programs currently running on the computer.. The names are in no particular order.
Click on "Image Name" to order them, then find "qttask.exe" select it, and click the "end process" button..
That should shut down QuickTime without killing your computer..
Check your Start Menu..All Programs.. Find QuickTime and point to it, see if there is an uninstall quicktime options listed.. if so, click it..
What is the result?
Thanks. That's my next move. Right after the President's presser.
This is a persistent little devil. First, goint through the Start Menue..All Programs process doesn't work because QT doesn't show up as a program. The other method you suggested (right-clicking on the task bar, etc.) looked promising at first since it revealed the "qttask.exe". However, even though I select the "end process" option and it appears to delete it, it comes back when I reboot. I have not given up. If I figure this out, I can go on to solve Social Security. ;-)
