Happy International Hug Day, Meekie.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

I think our temps will stay above 25 tonight.
Last night the temp got down to 23 degrees.
This is the second year that we have had extended extremely low temperatures.
I wonder what January will be like. :)

Fightin’ Words

You media pansies may squeal and may squirm,
But a fightin’ man knows that the way to confirm,
That some jihadist bastard truly is dead,
Is a brain-tappin’ round fired into his head

To hell with some wienie with his journalist degree
Safe away from the combat, tryin’ to tell me,
I should check him for breathin,’ examine his eyes,
Nope, I’m punchin’ his ticket to Muj paradise.

To hell with you wimps from your Ivy League schools,
Sittin’ far from the war tellin’ me about rules,
And preachin’ to me your wrong-headed contention
That I should observe the Geneva Convention?

Which doesn’t apply to a terrorist scum
So evil and cruel their own people run from,
Cold-blooded killers who love to behead,
Shove that mother’ Geneva, I’m leavin’ em dead.

You slick talkingheads may preach, preen and prattle,
But you’re damn well not here in the thick of the battle.
It’s chaotic, confusin’ it all comes at you fast,
So it’s Muj checkin’ out because I’m going to last.

Yeah, I’ll last through this fight and send his ass away
To his fat ugly virgins while I’m still in play.
If you journalist wienies think that’s cold, cruel and crass,
Then pucker up sweeties, kiss a fightin’ man’s ass.

One of my all time favorite songs!

L-O-V-E --> Nat King Cole

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you

Off We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder
The Air Force Hymn

by Robert Crawford, courtesy USAF Heritage of America Band

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Additional verses:

Minds of men fashioned a crate of thunder,
Sent it high into the blue;
Hands of men blasted the world asunder;
How they lived God only knew! (God only knew then!)
Souls of men dreaming of skies to conquer
Gave us wings, ever to soar!
With scouts before And bombers galore. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Bridge: "A Toast to the Host"

Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of his brother men who fly.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
A toast to the host of men we boast, the U.S. Air Force!

Zoom!

Off we go into the wild sky yonder,
Keep the wings level and true;
If you'd live to be a grey-haired wonder
Keep the nose out of the blue! (Out of the blue, boy!)
Flying men, guarding the nation's border,
We'll be there, followed by more!
In echelon we carry on. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Thank you, MoJo.

I had forgotten that song by Nat King Cole. I really like it, but then I like all of his music. He had such a beautiful voice.

There's something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part.

A hug is a way to show the joy
And sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
"Hey, I like you coz' you're you!"

Hugs are meant for anyone.
For whom we really care,
From your grandma to your daughter,
Or a cauddly teddy bear.

A hug is an amazing thing
It's just the perfect way
To show the love we are feeling
But can't find the words to say.

It's funny how a little hug
Makes everyone feels good
In every place and language
It's always understood.

And hugs don't need new equipment,
Special batteries or parts,
Just open up your arms,
And open up your hearts...

Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? —Job 40:2

Bible In One Year: Daniel 1-2; 1 John 4

Just before Christmas 2003, Lydia came home from work to the sight of flames shooting out of her house. She was devastated by more than the loss of her home—seven of her family members died in the flames. When news about the tragedy spread that morning, a deacon from her church rushed to comfort her. She had some deep questions for him, but he had no answers.

Lydia could relate to Job's story. He lost all 10 of his children (Job 1:18-19), yet he continued to worship God (v.21). Then his health was affected, and his wife urged him to curse God and die (2:9). Job's friends thought they had the answer—he must have sinned and deserved his troubles.

Job complained bitterly to the Lord and pleaded for an explanation and relief, but God didn't give him any answers. He didn't even tell him about Satan's request to test him (1:6-12; 2:1-6). Instead, He reminded Job that He was the all-wise God and that Job was not. Job was humbled, and he repented for having questioned God's authority (42:1-6).

This side of heaven, we may not find answers for our desperate questions of "Why did this happen?" and "Why me?" But we can rest in the truth that God is in control and that He loves us. —Anne Cetas

Though darker, rougher, grows the way
And cares press harder day by day,
With patience in His love I'll rest,
And whisper that He knoweth best. —Pentecost

God does not have to answer our questions, but He will always keep His promises.

Happy Blue Jeans Day!

300---Serge de Nimes (sairjh du NEEM)--French for "cloth from Nimes," is first woven in Nimes, France, about 300 A.D. Eventually "de Nimes" will become "denim."

1492---Christopher Columbus and his crew set sail in the Nina , the Pinta , and the Santa Maria, which may have all had denim sails.

1597---Italian sailors from Genoa wear cotton trousers. Since the French call Genoa and the people who live there, "Genes," the name sticks to the pants, too.

1853---Tailor Levi Strauss travels to northern California during the gold rush. He joins his sister and brother-in-law in San Francisco, opening a small dry goods store. It sells much-needed supplies to retailers who in turn sell them on to miners trying to strike it rich in the gold fields. A miner says that what they really need is strong pants that won't rip. Ever the entrepreneur, Levi turns the strong canvas cloth he had planned to sell for tents and wagon covers into pants--they cost about 22 cents. He had planned to live on his profits while he looked for gold, but his fortune begins with that bundle of brown cotton cloth. Called "those pants of Levi's," soon miners all over California are wearing the canvas pants they call Levi's.

1872---Jacob Davis, a Russian immigrant tailor in Reno, Nevada, repairs a miner's pockets with metal rivets. He then writes to Levi Strauss & Co. suggesting adding metal rivets to reinforce the seams and pants pockets from tearing away. Davis suggests that he and Strauss take out a patent on the process together.

1873---Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis spend $68 to file papers to patent their jeans. They receive a patent on May 20th. Featuring no belt loops--only suspender buttons and a waist-cinching buckle on the back, dark blue stiff loose-fitting riveted denim "waist overalls" are introduced in California. The denim comes from the Amoskeag Mill in New Hampshire.

1878---German chemist Adolf von Baeyer perfects a formula for synthetic indigo dyeing.

1886---To the rear of the "501" waistband Strauss adds a leather (or oilcloth) rear patch featuring a company publicity stunt of "two hitched horses" unable to pull his waist overalls apart.
