How To Clean Anything

Read: 1 John 1:5-10

The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. —1 John 1:7

Bible In One Year: Ezekiel 35-36; 2 Peter 1

Consumer Reports published a booklet with the intriguing title How To Clean Practically Anything. It offers advice on what solvent to use to remove a wide assortment of stains. Living as I do with drips and drops, that is my kind of book.

Did you know that glycerin will remove stains made by a ball-point pen? Boiling water can remove berry stains. Parents of small children should keep a gallon of vinegar handy to get rid of crayon marks. Bleach works well for mildew. Lemon juice performs minor miracles on rust stains.

I haven't tried them all, but I assume that scientists have put these common cleansing agents to the test.

What you will not find in this little book is how to deal with the most serious stain of all—the stain made on your life by sin. Deep, ugly stains made by hostile words and shame-filled actions. Tears won't touch them. Zeal can't erase them. At times we are convinced that we have gotten on with our lives and the sins are gone, but in an unguarded moment we notice the stain seeping through.

The Bible tells us just what we need: "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). That's the only remedy that works. —Haddon Robinson

Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain—
He washed it white as snow. —Hall

We may whitewash sin, but only Jesus' blood can truly wash it white.

Good evening, everyone!!

I hesitate to start answering pings this late but I was busy all day.

This morning, I needed to take care of some business while Marissa was in school. This afternoon, I planned to make a fast trip to get some birthday party stuff. I should know better than to ever expect to get anything finished fast!!

Marissa will be 5 on the 7th. We are having family and close friends here for ice cream and cake on the 5th. On the 7th, we will take cupcakes, goldfish snack crackers, juice and bubbles to school for a small party.

Hope y'all had a marvelous Monday. .

I couldn't find it in my dictionary, either.

I guess I was hoping more people would recognize it.

Chalmondelay is the original word that the British now chummily refer to as "Chumley." I think there was a cartoon series in which the hero's associate was called Chumley. (If memory serves, that hero had a "Maxwell Smart" voice.)

1/2 roast chicken breast (can substitute turkey)
1/3 can diced tomatoes
2 slices large onion
sharp cheddar cheese

Dice all ingredients. Put 2 tablespoons olive oil into a hot frying pan. Add chicken, onions salt & pepper, sweet basil, crushed red pepper. Cook about 3 minutes stirring several times. Mix in the tomatoes and add the cheese on top. Cover and turn the heat down to medium, cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Serve with any two vegetables.

Happy Leftovers Day!!

I wasn't going to try rhyming with Chalmondelay.

I guess it could be "out to play". :)

No, it's just chumley. They drop all the syllables and elide through the word. Rather in the way that Worcestershire Sauce is called "wooster sauce."

By the way, years and years from now, if Marissa gets an opportunity to go out socially on her birthday -- Don't Permit IT!

It's just destined to be a "Date that will live in Infamy..."

Hi Victoria! Today is Leftover Day and Clear Up the Clutter Day. I really don't want to celebrate Leftover Day. LOL!

If she wants to celebrate her 21st birthday at Chuck-E-Cheese (or the equivalent to it in CA), I don't see any problem with it.

Since I was the oldest in my group of friends, that's where we celebrated my 21st birthday. LOL!

We may relent to a celebration at Chuck-E-Cheese for her 21st. I just hope she doesn't want to go to McDonald's. :)

I haven't been to Chuck-E-Cheese for years.

Since she is becoming accustomed to eating out, she will probably want to go to Outback Steakhouse and then stop at McDonald's for french fries.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll put it on my calendar for 2020 ... no date on December 7th. Maybe I should note it for every year starting with 2014.
