Veterans Day
On Veterans Day, we celebrate,
In quiet moments, contemplate.
A holiday for civil workers,
Government folks, and other shirkers,
Ask them yourself, about the con,
Are you essential? Mais oui, non?
When evil storms blow into town,
The government offices all shut down.
So theyre off from work upon this day,
While all the Veterans still earn pay,
Having finished the job they were given to do.
They have different work now, that they must see through.
In trenches, on beaches, and planes in the air,
They went off to fight with scarcely a care,
At least so it seemed for they smiled all the while,
And they finished their work with admirable style.
Not once did they ask for much more than their smokes,
And they tell the old stories as if they were jokes,
Although we don't know what the day is about,
Today, while they work, theyre still sorting things out.

THANK THEM
Our Libertys a gift from God,
The Veterans assured it.
Whenever freedom faced a threat,
The Veterans secured it.
What do we owe our Veterans?
We owe our way of living.
They fought, some died, so we could live,
To them, our thanks, were giving.
Please take some time and praise them all,
They truly do deserve it.
We thank the soldiers, young and old,
Our freedom, they preserve it.

The Patriot
His brother died that day in Pearl,
The sneak attack took place.
He lost a cousin on D-Day,
He still can see his face.
The fight was tough and many died,
But freedom they would save.
He fought the Nazis gallantly,
He was more scared than brave.
But he and others pressed the fight,
And soon prevail they did.
He came back home to tickertape,
Back home to wife and kid.
He raised his family, they raised theirs,
Now all have moved away.
His wife passed several years ago.
He misses her each day.
Whats happened to the land he loves,
The one he fought hard for.
He cant go out for walks at night,
He has to lock his door.
He stays at home and reads a bit,
At least his dog still cares.
The young folks drive by in their cars,
Their music loud, their stares.
He flies Old Glory everyday,
He takes her in at night.
He sometimes wishes that he knew,
Just what could make it right.
Ill tell you now we owe this man,
Much more than we can pay.
Lets take our country back for him,
We need to start today.
Right now our troops are overseas,
Like he was long ago.
When they come home, home must be here,
The home we used to know.
Turn off the TV, get outside,
Go shake your neighbors hand.
Vote out the leftist liberals,
Get loud and take a stand.
America, is ours to save,
From outside and within.
Lets keep her strong and keep her great,
So home shell be again.

Thank you, Amy, I sure will, and I'll tell my son what you said.
Whenever I tell people about FR I first mention the P&P threads and our resident poets.

Graphic by Billie Remember to Salute
A thousand flags are held by men,
A thousand stories of back when,
The warriors clashed neath battered rag.
On closer view, it was their flag.
The flag stood always at the front,
When battle came, it took the brunt,
And though the bullets rent and tore,
The flag would never shirk from war.
Every flag, and every color,
Holds a meaning, all of valor.
Men who stand in salutation,
Are the fabric of our nation.
And the flag that fills their eyes,
Along with tears that might arise,
Show the heart that forges on,
Til the victory has been won.
Stand and honor passing glory,
Remember well the honored story.
The flag deserves salute and then,
Remember to salute the men.

Veterans Day
Our country called, they answered,
They risked their lives, their all.
They fought on land, sea, and air,
They saw their buddies fall.
Yet on they fought and they prevailed,
We owe our gratitude.
So give thumbs up, to them, the Vets,
God grant them solitude.
We cant repay all that they gave,
So show them that you care.
They fought for us, to all be free,
Be thankful they were there.

Lady Warrior
She is your little sister,
She is your neighbors wife.
She is somebodys daughter,
Youve known her all her life.
She may be someones mother,
She may be someones nurse.
She now has an M-16,
But once it was a purse.
Shes as soft as satin fine,
Shes also tough as steel.
She may fly a fighter jet.
For so strong is her will.
She is the female warrior,
She serves her nation well.
She may be from northern climes,
Or even Southern Belle.
Honor her and show respect,
And pray for her each night.
Know that she is still a girl,
But not afraid to fight.

Invisible Soldier
You can tell her by the twinkle in her eye,
At parades when the flag marches by.
She served our country and she served it very well.
Some have even served a tour or two in Hell.
She suffered hardship and never ceased to care.
It gave us strength just to know that she was there.
She was a leader, you could tell by the rank she wore,
But she became the invisible soldier after the war.
She can march, she can fly, and she can sail.
She proved that bravery isn't exclusive of the male.
She did every job she was asked and more,
But she became the invisible soldier after the war.
Now, it is finally time to right a wrong.
Honor our sister soldier; hear her song.
It's very clear that she's a patriot to the core.
Don't let her be the invisible soldier anymore.

The Warrior
The Warrior isnt all fight,
Theres more to him than that.
Theyre brothers, fathers, husbands,
When they arent in combat.
Men train to fight when need be,
But once they were just boys.
Now they carry weapons tight,
But they still miss their toys.
The fight requires their focus,
They take it all in stride.
Pray for them as they protect,
And pray for those whove died.
To them we owe our freedom,
They put it on the line.
If you cannot support them,
Leave soon please, that is fine.
