There is THIS poem, but it's not exactly
new. I wrote it a few weeks ago. I was
watching something (don't remember what)
& hadn't slept yet. Bad combination.

To Ashes

There I am,
all alone,
tied to a funeral pyre.
As my strength shrinks away,
the flames grow higher.
I beg & cry
while they turn an eye
away from my pain
hoping to gain
solace in blindness,
waiting for me to fade...
to ashes.

Marching Off The Map

Read: Genesis 12:1-4

Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. —Genesis 12:1

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 34-36; Hebrews 2

Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans. Our lives are subject to detours and corrections that we never expected or imagined.

Abraham and Sarah could testify to that. They were planning for retirement when life "happened" to them. God adjusted their agenda. He told Abraham, "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you" (Genesis 12:1). So this old couple packed up the tent and headed out to only God knew where.

When Alexander the Great had completed his conquest of Persia, he headed east. Author Halford Luccock said the general "marched off his maps."

That happened to Sarah and Abraham. God gave them marching orders without a map. They needed only enough faith to begin the journey, and they headed out to unknown territories and unimagined adventures. God never told them He would turn them "every which way but loose" before fulfilling His promise of a son who would become a great nation.

Make your plans. But write them on paper, not in concrete. God and life have a way of intruding and leading you on a journey that you might not have anticipated in your wildest dreams. —Haddon Robinson

Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand;
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand. —Stanphill

A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. —Proverbs 16:9

END THIS SORT OF THING NOW, on International End Gossip Day!

PAGE SIX, NY POST, GOSSIP NEWS: CULPRITS IN THE KERRY CAMP

November 5, 2004 -- JOHN Kerry campaign insiders are blaming some of the high-profile people surrounding the candidate for helping President Bush win re-election.

A prime target of the finger-pointers is Kerry's filmmaker daughter Alexandra, who made a splash at the Cannes Film Festival last spring when she appeared on the red carpet in a see-through dress. She then hired a pricey publicist at powerhouse agency PMK — on her dad's dime, sources say — and went on the campaign trail.

But insiders snipe that all she did was rack up major expenses. "She had an entourage of five people with her everywhere she went," one Kerry confidant sniffed to PAGE SIX's Jared Paul Stern. "A hairdresser, makeup artist, publicist and two assistants. It ended up costing something like $8,000 a month. And she didn't exactly do anything."

"These accusations are categorically false," Alexandra's rep retorts. "The campaign is accountable to taxpayers and would never pay for anything inappropriate. And the candidates' children would never be sent on the campaign trail by themselves."

Hip-hop hero Sean Combs and his much-ballyhooed "Vote or Die" campaign has also come under fire after young voters stayed away in droves.

"He was just a nuisance," sneers our Kerry snitch. "The whole thing was a joke. No one outside of New York or L.A. gives a hoot about this guy. All he did was get himself press."

Meanwhile, TV pundit George Stephanopoulos says Kerry's main problem was a failure to connect with the common man. Speaking at Women's Wear Daily's CEO summit at the Ritz Carlton in Battery Park City yesterday, Stephanopoulos cracked, "He has seven houses, is married to a billionaire and has French relatives."

Of course, a fair amount of bile is being directed at Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz, while others blame the fact that Kerry did not get rid of Bill Clinton loyalist Terry McAuliffe as Democratic National Committee chairman despite his top advisers' wishes.

McAuliffe was seen as too loyal to Clinton, who is also being fingered as a detrimental influence. As The Post's Vince Morris reported yesterday, some analysts say Clinton actually "energized" the Republicans. Of course, the same experts said Al Gore would have won four years ago if he had only used Clinton more on the hustings.

May I ask about the bad news?

I’ve had “walking pneumonia” for several weeks now and when it didn’t get any better, the doctor sent me for a cat scan. The results were not too good. I have to go for a biopsy next week. Would appreciate y’all mentioning me to the Lord in your prayers. While I do believe that the Lord is a FReeper, he still may not know who AL_possum39 is so, my name is Fred. If he doesn’t know which Fred, just tell him the really dumb one and he will know who you are talking about.

Santa gets an early start in lighting up our lives!

I do wonder about the NO? ARMY GUARD sign, however.
