Was it as panicky as this year? Was the anger towards the MSM as strong? Were concerns of voter fraud as high? I am experiencing all these things this year, but in 2000 I just watched FOX News and checked out some polls online. I was quite anxious then for sure. Any recollections from election 2000 Freepers would be appreciated.

Sorry for this stupid vanity. I thought it was going to post on a general chat thread. Please refrain from throwing darts.

Was it as panicky as this year?

No... there was a significant amount of FReepers who weren't exactly sold on GWB, and the stakes were nowhere near as high. In general, we were confident of a GWB win, as he was starting to open up the polls until the non-story about the DWI broke in the final week.

Was the anger towards the MSM as strong?

Not really... FR is pretty antagonistic toward the MSM in the best of times, after all, one of the best servies FR provides is a reality check on the MSM. And while it was obvious the MSM was biased and pulling for Gore, it was nowhere near as bad as the overt cheerleading this time around. Certainly the calling of Florida early (before the pnahandle polls closed) caused an uproar.

Were concerns of voter fraud as high?

I'd say no. There were concerns, of course, but we had not experienced such a massive amount of fraud since Kennedy/Nixon, and many of us weren't alive (like myself) or old enough to remember that election. Having the Gore team try to steal the election in Florida (and other states) made 'rat fraud a serious issue rather than just an accepted built-in handicap in the system. This year's "win at any cost" mentality inherent in the "ABB" crowd has put a much higher emphasis on vote fraud, especially since the 'rats have telegraphed that they're going to do it big time by threatening anyone who challeges fraudulent votes with a disenfranchisement lawsuit.

I am fairly new here, so I am just wondering what it was like at FR in 2000.

Back in 2000, we had to go through ten routers to access FR, uphill both ways!

Generally speaking, there was a lot of overconfidence. I remember being totally stunned on election night. Shortly thereafter I freeped Joe Liebemans house!

As a result of 2000 many here are more cautious, and some are outright doom and gloomers! Welcome aboard.

As for myself I am much calmer today then around this time in 2000.

I am in NY so its hard to get overmotivated. I was stunned to have to deal with Hillary winning and then the whole Bush fiasco. I feel much more relaxed now.

Hateful right wing religious fanatics were rampaging everywhere. Hypersensitive small-minded single issue hot-button extremists were spewing bile and untruth and accusing anyone with half a brain of being a RINO.

Pretty much the same as it is today.... ;^)

Actually drinking was the least of my problems......Just kidding.

Seriously, we were all pretty freaked out by the court thing and the recounts.....then the every vote counts but only in Broward, palm beach and miami-dade.....then the military vote shouldn't count.......then the Kangaroo court (Florida supreme court)reverses the appeals court without any supportable case law....then the state legislature threatens to convene because the the Florida supreme's are usurping the legislature's right to determine the manner in which to conduct the elections....

I think you get the picture....I venture to say that if most of us weren't glued to the TV we were glued to our computers.....venting and digging up info. all the while.

It wasn't as panicky. FReepers went into action and the ones that didn't encouraged the ones that were out on the streets doing something. FR was pretty united at the time.

With FR, I at least felt like I was doing something and wasn't alone.

I think there is more panic this year because of what people at FR did see in 2000. We are even more convinced that the media and the Dems are corrupt and that is where the fear comes in.

Actually it wasn't much different than it is now. One huge difference however is the rats were in power therefore we had very little security in Bush winning. Now that the rats are out and Republicans are in ... we can rest lots easier because we actually have adults in charge.

If you've noticed every supposed surprise the rats have tried to pull this election...has been deep sixth so fast...the rats don't know what to do. Except to try another lie!!! The Republicans are way ahead of all the rats dirty tricks. ;o) Which I find absolutely delightful...and so very kool.

It was astounding. When it became clear that the Gore team was trying to steal the election by tweaking chads in FLorida counties they controlled, freepers hit the streets all over the country. There were some 700 individual protests held in more than 200 cities during the 5 weeks the election hung in the balance.

My bullhorn is resting comfortably on a shelf about 8 feet away, in case it's needed again...

I found FR a few days after election 2000, as a result of the recount fiasco. It kept me sane.

We were very tense watching the attempts by the Democrat machine to steal the election, actually having the walnuts to bring Dailey of Chicago into the race to effect a fraud.

Then the Florida court ruled in a partisan manner until it got to the top court where there was a 7-2 finding that Gore was wrong. The 7 included a couple of liberal judges.

Then it was a 5-4 finding that there was no more time to pursue other things and the election was declared over.

Meanwhile everyone did their own count in Florida and they ALL found Bush won.

To this day, the Democrats have not been able to accept a thousand different counts that all said they lost.

That got to many people's nerves and some of the Democrats in charge voting districts were later arrested for committing various criminal frauds. Some in jail now I think.

I am just wondering what it was like at FR in 2000.

Let me just say this: clean your house and get your Christmas shopping done.

And tell your family to KISS OFF, you'll see them when the electoral votes are certified in December.

We believed a lot of garbage about 2YK, and about Nichols saying President Clinton was going to NOT LEAVE the White House. Now we are more careful about what to believe.

We had several huge Bush rallies in Times Square during the time between the election and the final decision. The last one was on December 3, with the Gypsy Kings blasting "Cambio!" into the intersection. We were psyched to get rid of the corrupt Clinton trash.

This year is different. We are all expecting widespread fraud, abetted by HAVA, and attempts to fight it all out in the courts, and of course violence if the Rats don't get their way. The emotions are even higher but different.

The 2000 fiasco is how I came to FR. Hunkering at my desk, desperate for even the tiniest rumor that it would be over soon and the last vestiges of the skanky clinton era would be swept away. Suddenly I was surrounded by other people - somewhere out there - hunkering at their desks, just like me. I think I linked from Drudge, and I remember that little warning thing, about FR being addictive.

Of course, it's not...I can quit any time I want to...

Anyway, this seems much much worse than 2000. It was still a 9/10 world back then.
