What Was It Like In 2000 At FR?

Posted on 10/26/2004 1:54:02 PM PDT by Clump

I am fairly new here, so I am just wondering what it was like at FR in 2000.

You had a pigeon? You lucky b*^*(*d. I had to load my backpack full of packets and hike them through the swamp to the closest dial-up.

Well... when I saw "pigeon" I really mean a dead rat with some feathers stuck to it that I had to hand-carry over broken glass and then splice into a telephone line and manually enter the bits one at a time, but it was a pigeon to me!

Hateful right wing religious fanatics were rampaging everywhere. Hypersensitive small-minded single issue hot-button extremists were spewing bile and untruth and accusing anyone with half a brain of being a RINO.

Pretty much the same as it is today.... ;^)

Actually drinking was the least of my problems......Just kidding.

Seriously, we were all pretty freaked out by the court thing and the recounts.....then the every vote counts but only in Broward, palm beach and miami-dade.....then the military vote shouldn't count.......then the Kangaroo court (Florida supreme court)reverses the appeals court without any supportable case law....then the state legislature threatens to convene because the the Florida supreme's are usurping the legislature's right to determine the manner in which to conduct the elections....

I think you get the picture....I venture to say that if most of us weren't glued to the TV we were glued to our computers.....venting and digging up info. all the while.

Relaxed as in confident? On election day 2000 it was snowing in Amarillo. I took my wife to vote and we prayed in the car. I truly felt like I would take the deal if someone told me I could choose the winner if I called it correctly. In the air, heads or tails? I was hopeful, but totally unsure.

The map I had included Florida and Ohio for victory. My best case scenario map included both of those along with Wisconsin, Iowa, and New Mexico. Worst case scenario was that Bush would lose Florida and thus the election. That is why I stopped breathing for about two minutes when Shepard Smith on Fox said that Florida had been called for Gore. Anyway, I do feel more optimistic this year. And that is after being on FR with all the doom and gloomers for the last 2 months.

"Its actually a good question. It was absolutely craxy here. For one, the Buchananites (Brigadiers) were so loud it was almost hard to tell there were so few. You would have thought the GOP was splintering up. "

Tho Brigaders, who were not axed by the button pusher squad, decided as Buchanan did this year, that the Republicans were the lesser of two evils at election time.

Actually Buchanan was premature in recognizing the problems with illegal immigration, exporting jobs, homosexual practices and foreign entanglements. He would havc done much better this year.

It wasn't as panicky. FReepers went into action and the ones that didn't encouraged the ones that were out on the streets doing something. FR was pretty united at the time.

With FR, I at least felt like I was doing something and wasn't alone.

I think there is more panic this year because of what people at FR did see in 2000. We are even more convinced that the media and the Dems are corrupt and that is where the fear comes in.

Actually it wasn't much different than it is now. One huge difference however is the rats were in power therefore we had very little security in Bush winning. Now that the rats are out and Republicans are in ... we can rest lots easier because we actually have adults in charge.

If you've noticed every supposed surprise the rats have tried to pull this election...has been deep sixth so fast...the rats don't know what to do. Except to try another lie!!! The Republicans are way ahead of all the rats dirty tricks. ;o) Which I find absolutely delightful...and so very kool.

True. Their hatred had made them transparent, irrational, impulsive, and predictable. Rove knows what they are doing before they do.

Rove knows what they are doing before they do.

He's done an excellent job....along with others working who remain invisible and unknown by the rats. That's why I think its absolutely delightful and so very kool.

It was astounding. When it became clear that the Gore team was trying to steal the election by tweaking chads in FLorida counties they controlled, freepers hit the streets all over the country. There were some 700 individual protests held in more than 200 cities during the 5 weeks the election hung in the balance.

My bullhorn is resting comfortably on a shelf about 8 feet away, in case it's needed again...

I used that until 1997. Between 1997 and 1999, I used a heliograph.

Heliographs didn't work too well during the Great Solar Crisis of '98 when someone forgot to pay the sun bill.

I found FR a few days after election 2000, as a result of the recount fiasco. It kept me sane.

We were very tense watching the attempts by the Democrat machine to steal the election, actually having the walnuts to bring Dailey of Chicago into the race to effect a fraud.

Then the Florida court ruled in a partisan manner until it got to the top court where there was a 7-2 finding that Gore was wrong. The 7 included a couple of liberal judges.

Then it was a 5-4 finding that there was no more time to pursue other things and the election was declared over.

Meanwhile everyone did their own count in Florida and they ALL found Bush won.

To this day, the Democrats have not been able to accept a thousand different counts that all said they lost.

That got to many people's nerves and some of the Democrats in charge voting districts were later arrested for committing various criminal frauds. Some in jail now I think.

My real curiosity is with regard to the mood leading up the election. I know from things said over the last few months that many Freepers were over confident. I followed the POA poll too at the time, but I knew it was off. Just how much I was not sure.
