Stragglers
Ahm lookin for some stragglers, and mavericks out there,
They are a dusty color and theres dust up in the air.
Ahll rope em in and try to make them part of this fine herd,
They should have come arunnin but they never got the word.
The word we have is friendship, and welcome to the Place,
Its always good to see your bright and shining face.
Just mosey on with us when we head out upon the trail,
Well just be grazin here until the dusty sun sets sail.

Shallow Friendliness
Read: John 15:9-17
A man who has friends must himself be friendly. Proverbs 18:24
Bible In One Year: Psalms 140-142; 1 Corinthians 14:1-20
Recently I received a phone call from a friendly-sounding person who told me she wanted to make my life easier. She called me by my first name and warmly asked how my day was going. Then she informed me that she could help me save thousands of dollars a year if I would simply refinance my home with a particular mortgage company. But once she understood that I really wasn't interested, her friendliness evaporated.
Such insincere friendliness is often just a culturally correct attitude that some people use to impress others or to get something from them.
Contrast that self-serving attitude with the genuine friendship Jesus showed us. He said, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends" (John 15:13). Then He demonstrated self-sacrificing love for us by dying on the cross to forgive our sins.
When we trust Jesus as our Savior and learn to obey Him, we experience a deep friendship that gives reality and sincerity to the friendliness we show to others.
Lord, help us to avoid the shallow friendliness that uses others to get what we want. Teach us instead to radiate the warmth of genuine Christlike friendliness to everyone we meet. Dave Egner
If friendliness is genuine,
It surely will convey
A warm and caring attitude
In all we do and say. D. De Haan
True friendliness can be a magnet that draws people to Christ.

Thank you , Rus. I thought I may have missed you this morning.
It is an inspiration to read the Daily Bread each morning. Thank you for bringing it to us.
Have a wonderful Friday and a great Labor Day Weekend.

Here is the first posting of my new poem.
We will Prevail

He accepts the challenge still,
As four more years we chant.
Hes the man to lead us on,
We all know Kerry cant.
Bush has the moral courage,
Well back him through the fight.
Hell never blink or falter,
For he has seen the light.
The terrorists are running,
Our troops will take them out.
We know the fight will take time,
Thats what, its all about.
Time to act and not back down,
So high our Flag will sail.
Bush Cheney in November,
We know, We will Prevail.

True friendliness can be a magnet that draws people to Christ.
Perhaps. But I've been shown false friendliness by people other than telemarketers.
People who knock on doors for the Lord, for example. Boy can you see the smiles MELT off their faces as I cheerily call out "Just a moment!" and then open the door to two youngsters in suits and ties, whilst I'm in full gothic regalia, a black cat slung over one shoulder and a black candle in hand...
