Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love time is eternity.
--Henry Van Dyke--
I have noticed that the people who are late are often so much jollier
than the people who have to wait for them

Present, Tense!
Being in the present, is not as it would seem,
For many folks spend waking hours, as if theyre in a dream,
With an idiot behind you, who drives a mean machine,
When you are at a red light, as soon as it turns green.
Youre living in the past, thinks he, who seeks to get around,
An obstruction in his driving two more blocks across the town.
The present is so difficult, thats why they call it tense,
Id like to list some items you can use in your defense.
The past is where contentment lies, as much as you have got,
For those who think the Future will bring joy, well, it may not.
We cannot know the turning that the wheels of fate may hold,
Although we know the choice of dying young, or growing old.
The things you are, are written there, those things that you have done,
Unlike the possibilities which must await another sun.
In the Futures where you bank your hopeful dreams that are to come,
Where they will be your guides out of the past that you are from.
The middle ground is narrow, and fleeting in its flight,
From promises at morning time up to regrets at night.
With Time compressing to this point it seems unfair somehow,
That you have only got Today to get so many things done Now.

You're welcome! :-) It was a bit of a challenge coming up with a graphic to go with your interesting "Present, Tense!" poem, NnBob. I couldn't think of anything other than using a clock....but, I think it works.
Good night....it's been a long day.

Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.
The fearful are caught as often as the bold.

Fear not that your life will someday end.
Fear only that you do nothing with it.

Penned by the husband of a dear friend. John Calvin Groen died earlier this year.
The Helmsman
Butch Rankin
One bright summer day
The gallant destroyer Durant swept proudly on her way
Bright faces clustered on her deck or, leaning oer her side
Watched carelessly the feathery foam that brushed her worn sides
Ah, who beneath that cloudless sky, the smiling bends serene
Could dream that danger, awful, vast impended oer the scene
Could dream that ere an hour had sped that frame of sturdy iron and oak
Would sink beneath the oceans waves, black with fire and smoke
A Seaman sought the Captains side, a moment whispered low
The Captains swarthy face grew pale as he hurried down below
Alas! Too late! Though quick and sharp and clear his orders came
No human efforts could avail to quench the insidious flame
Bad news quickly reached the deck, it sped from lip to lip
And ghastly faces everywhere looked from the doomed ship
Is there no hope, no chance of life? A hundred lips implore
But one, the Captain made reply, To run the ship ashore.
A sailor whose heroic soul that hour should yet reveal
By name John Calvin Groen, stood calmly at the wheel
Head her Southeast, the Captain shouts above the smothered roar
Head her Southeast without delay; make for the nearest shore!
No terror pales the Helmsmans cheek or clouds his dauntless eye
As in a sailors measured tone, his voice responds, Aye, Aye.
Three hundred souls crowd forward, wild with fear
While at the stern the dreaded flames above the deck appear
The Helmsman watched the nearing flames but still with steady hand
He grasped the wheel and steadfastly steered the ship toward land
John Groen, can you still hold out? he heard the Captain cry
A voice for out the stifling smoke, faintly responds, Aye, Aye.
But half a mile, a hundred hands stretch eagerly to shore
But half a mile, that distance sped, peril shall be all oer
But half a mile! Yet stay the flames, no longer slowly creep
But gather round the Helmsman bold, with a fierce and terrible sweep
John Groen, with an anxious voice, the Captain cries once more
Stand by the wheel five minutes yet, and we shall reach the shore!
Through flame and smoke that dauntless heart responded firmly still
Unawed, though face to face with death, With Gods good help, I will.
The flames approach with giant strides, they scorch his hand and brow
One arm, disabled seeks his side, ah, he is conquered now
But no, his teeth are firmly set, he crushes down his pain
His knee upon the stanchion pressed, he guides the Durant again
One moment yet, one moment yet! the Captain shouts more
Brave heart, thy task is oer
The pebbles grate beneath the keel, the ship is on the shore!
Three hundred grateful voices rise in praise to God, that he
Hath saved them from the fearful fire and the all engulfing sea
But where is he, that Helmsman bold? The Captain saw him reel
His burned hands released from their task, he sank beside the wheel
The Captain lifts his listless form and carries him to the bow
The Crew lets out a mighty roar
As the Helmsman is gently lowered to waiting hands upon the shore
The Captain bellows so all could hear
John Calvin Groen, a tin can sailor and Helmsman you be
And when you are fit once again, I want you to sail with me.
And through scorched and swollen lips, Aye, Aye, sir..
As soon as I am well, well sail into Hell if need be.

Afraid Of The Dentist?
Read: 1 Samuel 12:6-25
Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord. 1 Samuel 12:20
Bible In One Year: Psalms 70-71; Romans 8:22-39
Why are so many people afraid of going to the dentist? It may be the result of a bad experience. One woman said of her childhood dentist, "I started getting upset and crying and he said, 'If you don't shut up, I'm going to slap you.'" She now drives 70 miles to The Dental Fears Clinic in Kansas City.
People who are afraid to go to God have a similar problem. Some may have been mistreated by spiritual leaders. Others may have learned unhealthy fear of God as children. Still others, overwhelmed by their sin, see only God's righteous demand for justice and miss the loving provision of His Son's sacrifice for sin.
The people in today's Bible reading (1 Samuel 12) were afraid because Samuel exposed their sin. But he also told them that God longed to forgive them.
We need to replace irrational fears with healthy ones. God's Word repeatedly assures us that the pain of going to Him is far less than the pain of avoiding Him. It also assures us that because of Jesus we can "come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy" (Hebrews 4:16).
A dentist fills the holes in your teeth, but God wants to fill the holes in your heartwith Himself. Don't let your unhealthy fear stop Him. Mart De Haan
The love of God is my pillow,
Soft and healing and wide;
I rest my soul in its comfort,
And in its calm I abide. Long
Only God can fill the emptiness of an aching heart.

Time
(Mason, Waters, Wright, Gilmour) 7:06
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the
rain. You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, Thought I'd something more to say.

Good Morning, Amy. I hope you are having a great Friday!
To: OESY; All
I brought this over from yesterday's thread.
To: JustAmy; All
Where they get these ideas, I don't know but ...
Today is:
Fresh Breath Day
Pie Day (Minnesota)
Try Hypnosis Day, Try Hypnosis Day, Try Hypnosis Day
Halfway Point Of Summer Day
(Note: I believe yesterday was Blackmail Day -- so I skipped it for lack of perceived interest.)
Meanwhile, in the category of "Halfway Summer," this is how I spent a recent Saturday afternoon:
Summer Afternoon at Tanglewood This was the afternoon before the performance of soprano Renée Fleming at the Tanglewood Music Festival with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Patrick Summers, conducting. Sir Georg Solti once commented about Renée Fleming, "Quite apart from the sheer lyrical beauty of her voice, she has an innate musicianship which makes every performance a great joy."
