 A Night With a Wolf

 Little one come to my knee !
 Hark how the rain is pouring
 Over the roof in the pitch dark night,
 And the winds in the woods a-roaring

 Hush,my darling, and listen,
 Then pay for the story with kisses;
 Father was lost in the pitch-black night
 In just such a storm as this is.

 High on the lonely mountain
 Where the wild men watched and waited;
 Wolves in the forest, and bears in the bush,
 And I on my path belated.

 The rain and the night together
 Came down, and the wind came after,
 Bending the props of the pine tree roof
 And snapping many a rafter.

 I crept along in the darkness,
 Stunned and bruised and blinded...
 Crept to a fir with thick-set boughs,
 And a sheltering rock behind it.

 There, from the blowing and raining,
 Crouching I sought to hide me;
 Something rustled,two green eyes shone,
 And a wolf lay down beside me.

 Little one, be not frightened;
 I and the wolf together,
 Side be side through the long, long night,
 Hid from the awful weather.

 His wet fur pressed against me;
 Each of us warmed the other;
 Each of us felt in the stormy dark
 That beast and man was brother.

 And when the falling forest
 No longer crashed in warning,
 Each of us went from our hiding place
 Forth in the wild wet morning.

 Darling, kiss me in payment...
 Hark! how the wind is roaring!
 Father's house is a better place
 When the stormy rain is pouring.

 Pet Problem

 My hamster has the hiccups
 I think it's rather funny
 His oscilating diaphragm
 Below his little tummy.

 My hamster has the hiccups
 Which he didn't have before
 My hamster has the hiccups---POP!
 He doesn't anymore.

 Banana Zoo

 Should you behold Banana Zoo
 you're sure of a big surprise
 for there you'll see Ken Kangaroo
 with odd-shaped, kaleidoscope eyes
 and Terry the Tapir and Gerald Giraffe
 showin' off their skills as dowsers
 and Sid the Zookeeper with a halibut scarf
 and goldfishes pinned to his trousers.

 There's Venomous Vince, the variegated viper,
 pole vaultin' in one-legged jeans
 and Peccary Pete the porcine sniper
 with his blowpipe and haricot beans.
 there's Gertie the Gibbon and Maureen Macaque
 solicitin' in suspenders and bras,
 and Lewis the Lion who diets on wrack
 and keeps turquoise tadpoles in jars.

 And should you get stuck in Banana Zoo,
 where the purple striped Aardvark
 plays skiffle,
 I know a good shrink
 who will help pull you through,
 for there's no such place
 -it's piffle!

Piggies
  Read: 1 Peter 5:5-7
[Cast] all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
 Bible In One Year: Job 38-40; Acts 16:1-21

  I recall walking along a Texas creek many years ago with my brother-in-law Ed and his 3-year-old son David. David had been collecting smooth, round stones from the stream while we walked. He called them piggies, because their rounded shape reminded him of little pigs.
 David had stuffed a number of piggies in his pockets, and after running out of pockets he began carrying them in his arms. After a while he began to stagger under the load and lag behind. It was obvious he would never make it back to the house without help, so Ed said,Here, David, let me carry your piggies.
 Reluctance clouded Davids face for a moment, and then it lit up.I know,he said. You carry me and Ill carry my piggies!
 Ive often thought of that incident and my own childish insistence that I must carry my own load. Jesus offers to take all of my burdens but I resist out of stubbornness and pride. You carry me,I say, but I ll carry my piggies.
 How foolish it is to try to carry all your burdens on your own when Jesus asks you to castall your care upon Him, for He cares for you(1 Peter 5:7).
Have you put all of yourpiggiesin Jesus strong arms today? David Roper

 I would tell the Lord my longings,
 Roll on Him my every care,
 Cast upon Him all my burdens,
 Burdens that I cannot bear. Weigle

 God cares.

     Lascaux
Lascaux

 Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
 Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
 Sailed off in a wooden shoe---
 Sailed on a river of crystal light,
 Into a sea of dew.
 "Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
 The old moon asked the three.
 "We have come to fish for the herring fish
 That live in this beautiful sea;
 Nets of silver and gold have we!"
 Said Wynken,
 Blynken,
 And Nod.
 The old moon laughed and sang a song,
 As they rocked in the wooden shoe,
 And the wind that sped them all night long
 Ruffled the waves of dew.
 The little stars were the herring fish
 That lived in that beautiful sea---
 "Now cast your nets wherever you wish---
 Never afeard are we";
 So cried the stars to the fishermen three:
 Wynken,
 Blynken,
 And Nod.
 All night long their nets they threw
 To the stars in the twinkling foam---
 Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
 Bringing the fishermen home;
 'T was all so pretty a sail it seemed
 As if it could not be,
 And some folks thought 't was a dream they 'd dreamed
 Of sailing that beautiful sea---
 But I shall name you the fishermen three:
 Wynken,
 Blynken,
 And Nod.
 Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
 And Nod is a little head,
 And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
 Is a wee one's trundle-bed.
 So shut your eyes while mother sings
 Of wonderful sights that be,
 And you shall see the beautiful things
 As you rock in the misty sea,
 Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:
 Wynken,
 Blynken,
 And Nod
