In God's eyes, true greatness is serving others. So true. Hello Mayor, and thanks for your daily inspiring quotes.

Thanks Louie. I'm having a lovely weekend.
May God bless those that have fought and died for our freedom. God bless our military!
Amen.

Kipling is just the right poet for Memorial Day. His "Tommy" expresses the feelings of our unthanked heroes in Vietnam, and all forgotten, ill-treated, underpaid soldiers and sailors through all the centuries.
Read it again. Tommy

Very nice poem, thank you!
I like Rudyard Kipling's style, and since we're celebrating Memorial Day weekend, here is another one I like.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.
I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of taps one night,
when everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington...
No freedom isn't free.

Good Poem. The price of Freedom is written on memorials and headstones all over the world.

Memorial Day -
In Flanders fields the poppies blow,
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved and were loved and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- Lt. Col. John McCrae, KIA 1918 in Flanders Belgium after 4 years on the Western Front.

It was kind of sad. He really writes poorly, I can't belive he is trying to compete with NicknamedBob.
At least he has a cool name. Rud_yard*Kipling.

Oh my, what has happened to me!?! What started out as fantasy has become reality (except Amy ain't payin' for it, I AM!)
I needed some new work shoes. (Are you getting a picture already?) Shoe Carnival has buy one pair get the second pair of the same or lesser value at 1/2 off. Umhum, I not only went to one store last night, I went to a 2nd one today cuz they didn't have a pair in my size. I did at least replace my work shoes - the most expensive of the bunch. (I also found a pair I can wear in the winter with heavy socks cuz they were a little big. I couldn't let them go at $8!)
Unfortunately I am also having to accept that shoes are not made in America anymore, or at least they are very few.
