How long will You hide Your face from me. —Psalm 13:1

God, give us wings to rise above
The clouds of trial that block the sun,
To soar above gray skies and see
The love and goodness of Your Son.

When living under clouds of adversity, remember that the sun is still shining.

Postcard Christianity

Read: Psalm 13

How long will You hide Your face from me. —Psalm 13:1

Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 10-12; John 1:29-51

When my husband and I visited Mt. Rainier, the highest point in the continental United States, I expected to see some spectacular sights. But for 2 days the mountain remained shrouded in clouds. So instead of taking pictures, I bought postcards.

Our vacation caused me to question the way I portray my faith to people around me. Do I present a "postcard" view of Christianity? Do I give the false impression that my life is always sunny—that my view of God is always clear?

That's not what David did. In the passion-filled poetry of Psalm 13, he admitted that he couldn't see God and didn't understand what He was doing (v.1). But by the end of his prayer, he was certain that what he couldn't see was nevertheless there because he had seen it before in God's bountiful care (vv.5-6).

Christians are like people living at the foot of Mt. Rainier. They've seen the mountain before, so they know it exists even when clouds are covering it.

When suffering or confusion obscures our view of God, we can be honest with others about our doubts. But we can also express our confidence that the Lord is still there by recalling times we've witnessed His grandeur and goodness. That's better than postcard Christianity. —Julie Ackerman Link

God, give us wings to rise above
The clouds of trial that block the sun,
To soar above gray skies and see
The love and goodness of Your Son. —Sper

When living under clouds of adversity, remember that the sun is still shining.

I called some friends over. But we need to open the windows.

I'll have a good week and I know you will too.

I had to email Mom's to Cinnicinatti (my baby sister lives there). My parents went up for my nephew's graduation from Kent State.

"Christians are like people living at the foot of Mt. Rainier. They've seen the mountain before, so they know it exists even when clouds are covering it."

Thanks for reminding us to lift up our eyes to the Heavens, from whence cometh our strength, even on those days that seem so dark.

This is so cute, and clever! Pumpkin Seed indeed! I love the cottage and the words!

When you enter Amy’s Place, it’s bigger in than out,
So step inside but don’t forget to give your friends a shout.
The more we have attending here, the bigger it will get,
So just keep right on piling in, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

Amy's Place keeps getting bigger and better!

This is a new poem by Elenheru - always as much fun for me to illustrate the poems as it is seeing how the poets interpret the graphics. (Which comes first? the chicken or the egg? the poem or the picture?) :)

LA

Director of Lights.
Runner of Machines.
Owner of the Badge.
Angelic, Devilish, Flighty.
City of Free Will.
They tell me you are dirty and I have seen the littered
           grounds, parks unfit for footstep.
They tell me you are unruly and I have seen the East
and the West, their guns ablaze.
Having seen it all I scorn the scorners with a sharp
           tongue:
Show me a place where the crowds are thicker and
           the midnight lights are brighter.
Tell me who can stand
           more proud?
Here is a suited man pinned against the world.
Quick as a tiger in sharp pursuit running among
           the towers.
Communing.
Planning.
Commercing.
Forming. Debating. Expanding
Eyes glittering in the sun full of life and energy.
Surging as ecstatic as a runner approching the goal line.
The eyes of the people glitter with,
           Energy.
Director of Lights.
Runner of Machines.
Owner of the Badge.
