The number of casualties is in as much dispute as the number of invaders. Balbi gives 35,000 Turkish deaths,[4] Bosio 30,000 casualties (including sailors).[5] Several other sources give about 25,000.[43] The knights lost a third of their number, and Malta lost a third of its inhabitants. Birgu and Senglea were essentially leveled. Still, 6,000 defenders had managed to withstand a siege of more than four months in the hot summer, despite enduring a bombardment of some 130,000 cannonballs. Jean de Valette, Grand Master of the Knights of Malta, had a key influence in the victory against the Ottomans with his example and his ability to encourage and hold people together. This example had a major impact, bringing together the kings of Europe in an alliance against the previously seemingly invincible Ottomans; the result was the vast union of forces against the Ottomans at the Battle of Lepanto six years later. Such was the gratitude of Europe for the knights' heroic defence that money soon began pouring into the island, allowing de Valette to construct a fortified city, Valletta, on Mt. Sciberras. His intent was to deny the position to any future enemies. De Valette himself died in Buskett at a hunting accident next to the Verdala Palaces in 1568.
See Something/Say Something mobile app is quick and easy and just sending a few pictures of something that is not right but you can’t put your finger on it.

One thing that the DHS does well is consolidate suspicious activity reports and pushes the information to State/Local officials.
While this post is intended to raise awareness of the fact that 9/11 has been a thing since 1565 - let’s all just be a little quicker than usual to take pictures of and send them off to See/Say even if you can’t explain why you think a person or thing is out of place.

9/11 1683. That was when King Sobieski of Poland defeated an Islamic invasion of Europe at Vienna.
So many 9/11’s in world history. Sadly most Americans only know about 2001
PING
This would be a great thread to ping all your ping lists to. If just one person raises their alertness level over the next 7-10 days —
This is NOT the week to 2nd guess yourself before reporting something. The threat analysis team will be functioning at FULL capacity and can adjudicate reports very quickly. One thing that pushes a “suspicious person or thing” up the chain very quickly is when regular citizens report something suspicious- law enforcement agencies local, state and federal and yes even international take those reports and consolidate them very rapidly
It wouldn’t surprise me if all this information was collected and then ignored.
Just like 9\11\01.
But hey,its worth a try.
I would just call the local sheriff.
Less chance for a screw up. Intentional or not.
Yes, they did so well on 7/15. /s
"7/13"
BTTT
Has nothing to do with 9/11/1565. I fact it ended 3 days before 9/11/1565.

The Great Siege of Malta by the Ottoman Empire.
The Great Malt of Seagrams...............
I would argue that the empire determined their decisive defeat occurred on 9/11 because they have retaliated in some form or fassion every 9/11 since then.
Wiki has that date wrong. Arguably the actual defeat could have occurred on 9/8 but I don’t think it posted on Facebook until 9/11 due to poor internet connectivity
BTTT ! I had not read that before. Thanks for posting that source
There is no question that 9/11 has meaning to Islam. Negative until the modern era when we became weak in our response to Muslim aggression:
Significance of 9/11 in Islam
According to Islamic tradition, September 11, 1683, is a significant date in Islamic history. On this day, the Ottoman Empire’s armies, led by Kara Mustafa Pasha, besieged Vienna, but were ultimately repelled by the Holy Roman Empire and Polish forces. This defeat marked a turning point in Ottoman expansion into Europe and is remembered as a humiliation by some in the Islamic world.
Modern Context
In the 21st century, September 11 has taken on a different significance in Islam. The 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States in 2001, perpetrated by al-Qaeda, have been linked to this historical date by some extremists. They view the defeat of the Ottoman Empire at Vienna as a precursor to later humiliations and a catalyst for their own anti-Western and anti-American sentiments.
Post-9/11 Developments
In the aftermath of the 2001 attacks, some Muslim communities worldwide expressed concerns about potential backlash and discrimination against Muslims in the United States. In response, then-President George W. Bush delivered a speech at the Islamic Center in Washington, D.C., emphasizing that “Islam is peace.” While this message of tolerance and understanding was initially well-received, over time, political rhetoric and public opinion in the United States have become increasingly polarized, with some Republicans and Democrats holding differing views on the relationship between Islam and violence.
Legacy
Today, the date 9/11 serves as a reminder of the complex and multifaceted nature of Islamic identity and the ongoing challenges faced by Muslim communities worldwide. It highlights the need for continued dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect between different cultures and religions.
I think the evidence is clear. This is the FIRST 9/11 because it marked the first decisive DEFEAT of the advance of the Ottoman Empire against Christianity
Every 9/11 since then is in retaliation for THIS historical defeat.
Agreed?
