Fascinatingly, a clever orange cat learned how to drink from the water dispenser in its home by observing it for so long.
Better lock the liquor cabinet.
I had a male cat with a house that had a special path he could use any time he wanted to come and go. He found a way to bring in females and bribe them with food for special favors.
Who needs booze when there’s catnip
I had a gf in the ‘80s who had an orange tiger tom cat. She claimed that they were the smartest variety of cats. When that cat wanted out he would go to the door and put his paws on the doorknob and try to twist it. He couldn’t do it but he always tried to.
That is a dead ringer for our Coco, but we don’t have a water cooler.
The pictures/video don’t work for me
Yes— those yellow cats are supposed to be very smart. Our Teddy let us run the house, but HE ruled!
Had a cat who was very smart Left box of dry food on counter top one day - came home to find it on floor, missing a good amount
Cat had jumped on counter and pushed the box off the edge where it fell on floor and spilled all over Cat chowed down on spilled cat food
Late at night when we were all in bed sound asleep and our cat decided she wanted to go outside, she would walk up and down on the piano keys. It was creepy to hear someone messing with the piano in a pitch black house.
People that think cats are dumb don’t understand a sigma personality, cats don’t care if you think they are smart. In fact, they really don’t care much what you think about anything if you have not earned their respect.
They observe and figure things out. There is no random with cats. Every action they take is calculated. I have 9 of them and each has a personality and way of doing their thing. They also have patterns. One of mine has specific processes that must be followed or he won’t participate. Treats in a specific chair, food on a specific grease spot in a plate on the shop floor.
The orange cat currently living here sits at the door and looks at the doorknob when it wants to go out.
Mom had a white cat who would jump at the doorknob to try to open it.
We had one that would sit under the table and reach over the edge of the table to spear his favorite cheetoes. His name was Pyle. Huge cat could stretch out on the sofa nearly end to end. He could lay there dead still knowing if he made trouble he would get put outside.
We have a little black cat that could talk if she had the vocal cords for it. She meows in multiple “syllables” in a string when she wants something like to go outside.
When I go out to the field with the tractor at least part of the gang hangs out under the lean to on the barn in a vantage point until I bring the tractor back to the barn.
I had a tabby about 30 years ago, Jethro, who would jump at the light switches and flick them on and off. Not sure why — just for the hell of it. He’d also knock the receiver off the hook and meow when the phone rang. We had to put it up where he couldn’t reach it.
His brother, Homer, loved company and would follow guests everywhere. When we sold our house and met with the realtor at the table, we had to bring a bar stool for Homer so he could participate.
We had to replace the lever-type doorknob on the bedroom door with a traditional round one, because one of our cats figured out how to open the door. If we locked it, she would just keep pulling at the lever until we let her in so she could sleep on the bed. Once we switched it out, and she realized she couldn’t open it anymore, she was content to sleep elsewhere, but she still opens the other lever doors with ease.
Wow! Clever cat. She can go places without asking you via the levers. Nice.
Jethro and Homer both sound like fun unique cats. Im glad you had them. :)
Ping!
