Leibel Sternbach, a financial adviser, shared how his wife now has to double check their fridge after every shopping trip to tell him which things he didn’t need to buy. After all, their weekly grocery costs are now up to $350 per week.
Last year, it was only around $220.
He and his wife have already given up on their favorite snacks – babka for him and KitKat candy bars for his wife.
Arne Boudewyn, head of family wealth and culture services at Wells Fargo, said this scenario is happening in many households across the country. “You don’t want to have these conversations in the grocery store aisle,” he said.

$350 a week for two people? Even $230 a week for two people is ridiculous!
Revelation 6:6 NIV Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!” NIV: New International Version.
You don’t get there overnight to Rev 6:6. However, the world is well along on the path to it.
Not really I am single and it is every bit of 120 a week for just me.
Groceries, gasoline, utilities, etc. have all gone up 25-75%, depending on specifics. Somehow the government experts have determined that comes out to about 8% for everybody on average.
So somebody somewhere in the USA must have seen their spending decrease for the same volume in order to come out to an average like that. Sort of like the average temperature in northern Illinois is what 46-55 degrees? There are only a few days every year that are in that range, and not for the entire day.
“$350 a week for two people?”
If you eat organic, and eat the best of everything...$350 is easy.
I can testify.
I saw pasture eggs 8.99 a dozen
Packaged goods smaller but higher
It’s ridiculous
I got a coupon for free Cheetos. I normally don’t buy them.. was shocked to see Cheetos with a 4.99 price
This is nothing new, my wife and I have been doing this for years!
Just don’t buy anything organic, free range, or labeled with any of those leftist labels used to jack prices up for the socially conscious crowd.
And don’t buy expensive fruits and vegetables flown in from other countries.
I am going to try dragon fruit for diabetes but am going to have to use frozen.
We’ve always argued when we shop😄 Now we’re just in shock over prices..
Junk Food junkie here,
I do a drive thru 5 days a week.
Jack in the Box, Taco Bell,
Wendy’s, Popeyes and In N Out.
Under 5 bucks each and prices have been
Fairly stable. I should do a budget but
Seems everyday is TEOTWAWKI so I just keep going for the ‘Happy Meal.’
Who’d they vote for?
I did see a couple go at it at COSTCO on Tuesday, He about assaulted her with their Hugh Shopping Cart!!!
36 years of marriage and I only looked at grocery bill receipt once. I never look, it’s best for my health.
Butter is about $1 a stick. TP & Paper towels over $1 a roll. I could go on.
I’m the shopper & the coupon maven in the house, and it’s not looking good for those of us in the middle (between the elites and the freeloaders)
vote Republican and bring harmony back to your home!
I am same but meals are in the $5 $6 $7 range now. Breakfast seems to have most inflation. I cant believe the people who shell out $11-$12 for the highest price items on the menu. No way is fast food worth that.
