Iran’s True Colors: Exiles in Albania Recall Torture and Death inside Regime Prisons

Tirana, Albania — It is the stuff of wild nightmares.

Despite the passage of three decades, for Iranian dissidents residing in a sprawling Albanian compound — far from their homeland — the torture and trauma of life inside an Iranian regime prison is still raw.

“I was a university student, almost seven months pregnant, when the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) came,” Kobra Jowkar, now 59, says softly. “They raided our home at midnight and were very ruthless.”

That ruthlessness, she claims, included kicking her around like a soccer ball — and walking on her bulging belly. The worst would come later, behind bars in Tehran’s Evin Prison, when guards mauled her raw flesh with cables and sticks in front of her husband, knowing he could do nothing but watch, unable to protect his young wife and unborn first child.

Iran's government is terrible. I have friends who lived there and had to run and immigrate away.

We learned our lesson in Iraq. Overthrow the government and things get better? We had more reason to attack that country than we did Iraq. They’ve been at war with us since ‘79. Why have we pulled our punches since then?

“We had more reason to attack that country than we did Iraq.”

The plan for going into Afghanistan was to destroy Al Qaeda. But Al Qaeda escaped to the rest of the Middle East. The rest of the Middle East had no intention of helping the US destroy Al Qaeda. So, to give them an incentive the US needed to put an armored brigade in the Middle East that potentially threatened the countries Al Qaeda fled to, Iran, Syria, and a few others. You don’t need an armored force to pacify Fallujah. For that you need infantry. The fact that that threat was there forced those other countries to destroy Al Qaeda for us. The problem was we should have pulled out of Iraq then, but someone had the bright idea of turning Iraq into Wisconsin.

Attacking Iran, which had a population of over sixty million, would have been a much tougher nut. As for pulling punches, the US Navy wiped out the Iranian Navy in an afternoon. (We couldn’t do it as easily today because they adapted.)

The Al Qaeda of the Philippines or Shi Lanka are branding attempts. It isn’t the same organization. The plan worked. The problem comes in that we stayed in Iraq too long and when we left, we did it chaotically, kind of like the Biden administration left Afghanistan.

They are the members of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq, a terrorist group that is trying to overthrow the regime in Iran. They took part in the revolution to depose the Shah of Iran, but had ideological differences with the pro-theocracy supporters of Khomeni. So they were rounded up and jailed/executed and many of them escaped to Iraq, where they joined Saddam’s forces in the Iran-Iraq War in the 80s. After the pro-Iranian government took power in the 2000s, they were exiled and the US (after making a massive donation to the UN) had them relocated as refugees to a camp in Albania in 2013. There they have become a favorite of neocons like John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and Rudy Giuliani as useful idiots to again weaponize against Tehran, despite their Marxist ideology.

No good guys here, only grievances, terror, and death.

The supremacy of Albania
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2022/09/the-supremacy-of-albania.php

Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama severed diplomatic relations with Iran and gave the Iranian mission 24 hours to get out. When mission personnel had vacated the premises in Tirana, he sent in counterintelligence officers to scour the premises and ascertain what might be learned.

Rama’s moves were prompted by an Iranian cyberattack on government digital services and web sites in July. The AP story quotes the video statement issued by Rama:

Rama said an investigation determined that the cyberattack wasn’t carried out by individuals or independent groups, calling it “state aggression.”

“The deep investigation put at our disposal undeniable evidence that the cyberattack against our country was orchestrated and sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran which had involved four groups for the attack on Albania[.]”
