(VANITY) How about another music tournament? This times, '50s!
me | 4/19/20 | me

Anyone want to participate in a music play-off bracket-type poll for best songs of the '50s?

At the start of this year, as well as 2 and 5 years ago, I ran "tournaments" to pick the best songs of the '60s, '70s and '80s, based on Billboard rankings, so only the best of the best were included!

Normally it'd probably be next year before I'd even attempt. But given this stay-home COVID nonsense, I thought maybe everyone would like another something to do.

You can view how the earlier versions played out here:

I can do this for the '50s; I've wanted to do so even though there is a risk that not many would easily participate. I assume I could start it next week.

Go ahead and add me ... it’s pushing the envelope, as I was born in 1954, but they were still playing a lot of ‘50s music in Michigan during my elementary school years.

Don’t forget, for reasons of publishing $,
mainstream acceptance and familiarity
a lot of pre rock titles were recycled as
50s/60s hits

Where Or When, You Belong To Me,
Deep Purple, Heart And Soul,
Some Enchanted Evening etc

Sure, I would. I am more into 60’s and 70’s so may not be as familiar but I would give it a shot. :) Thank you!

I’ll give it a shot. I might have to listen to the songs before I vote, though.

I wouldn’t join in. As a musician with sometimes bazarre, oddball, avante garde musical taste my vote wouldn’t help at all and just muck things up. I don’t think Capt Beefheart makes any lists anyway >grin... Thanks anyway for the ping.

But carry on.
