“Where Or When, You Belong To Me,
Deep Purple, Heart And Soul,
Some Enchanted Evening etc”

I am familiar with those, and also
“It’s Now Or Never”
“Baby Face”
“Tangerine”
“Puttin’ On the Ritz”

All recycled from ‘60s through ‘80s

Johnny and the Hurricanes made a small industry out of making rocking instrumental versions of public domain tunes (e.g. “Red River Rock”) and occasionally artists like Barry Manilow (”Could It Be Magic”) and Billy Joel (”This Night Will Last Forever”) “borrowed” from the likes of Chopin and Beethoven.

Silhouettes-Get A Job-1958

Given the 1958 recession and the tight job market, the Silhouettes had a tough row to hoe. However, despite the hard times, James Sheppard and the Heartbeats were more successful.

I Found a Job--The Heartbeats (1958)

Another that was successfully recycled and made into a smash hit was Are You Lonesome Tonight?

Whenever I think of music from the far past— I think of Frank Sinatra. His original “All or Nothing at All” always comes to mind. Well before the 50s music, but a beautiful piece. I’m older than just about all of you here, so I’m dating myself, but music is music and that is a beautiful piece— the singer, the words and the music are classics.

Great list. So wish they could all be on the contest, but that won’t be.
Patsy CLine’s biggest hits (pop) weren’t until the ‘60s - I Fall to Pieces, as well as Crazy.

Sorry but I don’t think so!

I don't think so, either, On my chart, only #1, #2 and #7 charted nationally, but they didn't make it to the Top 10.

‘50s is a little before my time. Baby’s listen to nursery rhymes not pop music.

Yes, and some others too
Perfidia, You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby,
Blue Moon, Zip A Dee Doo Dah,
Riders In The Sky

The classics were a trove to be plundered:
A Lovers Concerto (which I perceive
in the solo to More Than A Feeling)
A Whiter Shade of Pale, Asia Minor,
Nut Rocker
