Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.
More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.
My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.
There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.
I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.
When I lived in HI moringa trees were common, and a neighbor told me that local Filipinos would pick the leaves to cook. This was a long time before moringa leaves were known much in the US. So I picked and cooked some, I love all kinds of greens mostly.
But the moringa was exceedingly bitter. I mentioned that just the other day to a Filipino friend and she said that the tender younger leaves are edible; the old tough ones ae bitter.
So..is your moringa powder bitter?
I start the day with a big smoothie like drink and dump scoops of all kind of things into it. A scoop of moringa, also wheat grass, greens powder et all.
Don’t know what plain moringa powder tastes like. Is readily available. haha this spell checker never heard of it!

OH OH SO SORRY to hear of your accident burn thingy. I have to assume you know what to do for it. But I hear unusual suggestions which I don’t think of readily. I see them at PeoplesPharmacy.com. Maybe a search there. But I think IIRC black pepper, soy sauce, hmmm
Hope it gets comfortable soon.
I have a friendly suggestion for you, which I'm hesitant to share with you now, because of your recent health trials, but I'm thinking this suggestion might be aimed more for when you're totally back, 100%.
Your natural health suggestions here, and other FReepers suggestions here, are very helpful and useful for many other FReepers, but I was thinking (if you feel like it when you're back to 100%) that splitting these up into different, smaller, specific threads, might be helpful for folks to more easily find suggestions that pertain to something applicable, which they are going through at the time.
For example, instead of a general health thread like this one (which is great!), maybe you could break this down into individual health issue threads, such as the following, and others, each with its own set of natural treatment suggestions from you and others:
(Just a thought -- only for when you're back to 100% health!)
That makes a lot of sense. But what would happen to all the info on this thread, mixed up as it is? I think “General Health Improvement” would also be a good thread, and maybe “Home Remedies” that can be multi-use, “Natural Products to Make”. What do you think?
Any ideas of how to implement welcome.
Putting a bag of frozen berries helped a lot, then the lavender oil and clay. I didn’t put as much clay as I should have, so at night it was bothering a bit, so I used an old sock with toe cut off and soaked it in a mixture of colloidal silver, plain water, rose water and a few drops of lavender oil. That totally took the pain out but it was hard sleeping with a wet sock on my hand/forearm. A plastic bag taped on didn’t work that well as I did not engineer it properly.
But that mix of water/rosewater/colloidal silver/lavender worked well. Would be a good spray or application for sunburn, too.
I was thinking of those other, more specific subjects too, for individuals struggling with just one health issue at the time, which would likely generate other suggestions from folks who have already gone through those challenges (such as natural treatments for kidney troubles, for example).
Some of those individual threads could contain suggestions for specific natural treatments, and maybe some related dietary suggestions as well, from you, and from others here, with valuable ideas to share.
(But I do like your ideas there too, for each of those additional threads you suggested.)
Read the article or not. After all the techno talk, finally it tells you where to get it in food: CANADIAN HEMP
www.naturalnews.com/2019-08-18-two-chemicals-preserve-youth.html
Scientists identify two molecules that make up the fountain of youth and even accelerate wound healing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, hemp has BEEN Canadian, due to law forbidding it being grown in US, until just now.
I get a lot of things from www.AllStarHealth.com, deep discounts, and have been getting hemp powder from them for years, Canadian of course. Add big scoop to morning drink. Have a few brands, get Manitoba IIRC.
I don’t think there is any way to make these suggestions and infos into easily found categories. That is why I just started adding info as I found it. [I keep my own list of things I come across and need to keep in mind. So then I decided to add some here.
Otherwise it heads to similar sites that have lots of this and can be searched on. NaturalNews etc.
I suggest adding an instruction that anyone can ask for info on something they want and not worry if it is already posted and they haven’t READ IT ALL!
And also add links of where else to look for things. I just tried PeoplesPharmacy and don’t see any way to search it, now. They just modified their site. Maybe they want you to read their books.
An idea: In say a Home Page, start a list of CATEGORIES, and add any Post# that fits the category.
My profile page, you mean? Maybe clarify...
And if I had any tech skillz, I could make a thread with links at the top to related health threads. But...it would not be a nice clean job.
Bump for natural health.
I will try tomorrow to post what I am doing for cancer. Plus my goal is to post extensively about herbs that I am familiar with and have used for myself, family and clients.
Ok, thank you very much for doing this. I am particularly interested in what you did for the heart but also an ounce of prevention is always worth a pound of cure so all information is valuable. I have been taking fish oil potassium and magnesium myself but also interested in herbal options. I am going to look into Arjuna as well.
In the next few days I will claw myself together a bit and post info on heart and herbs. I have studied herbs and heaing (on my own, not officially) for 40 years and have helped many conditions. Diet of course also plays a bit part, and other factors. And there are built in conditions, tendencies and so on, each person is unique, and some conditions cannot be eradicated but only treated; some can get cured.
I did kick RA with herbs and some diet, heart is so far under control (age will no doubt continue to do its job haha), thyroid somehow got better. Etc..... It’s a question of balance, generally.
Arjuna is protective as well as curative. But herbs generally work better in conjunction with other herbs, supprtive etc. So that’s why I take a heart herb formula based on Arjuna but with other herbs.
Which other herbs may depend on one’s specific needs or consition - is there edema, for instance, arrhythmia, high or low BP, congestion in arteries, etc.
Arjuna is good for all of the above, which is great, but the other herbs used might vary.
Be back later.
Just reporting that my TSH very recently went from its usual about 4.50 or so to about 2.30 (don’t have blood test in hand). It’s not been that normal for a long, long time. I attribute it to Kanchanar Guggulu, specific for thyroid problems including goiter.
Thanks. I have borderline high blood pressure but sometimes it is not that high. I have also been experiencing some arrhythmia in the form of PVC’s during the last 7 months. I have made some lifestyle and diet changes that have helped a great deal but they are still happening here and there.
Here is some info about Arjuna, the part used is bark. I always use powdered herb, no need to simmer or strain, I mix in a blend with a few other herbs but even Arjuna by itself will be very useful for heart and some other issues. I take 1 heaping t. of a heart formula based on Arjuna, plus about 2/3 t. Arjuna, daily. Since I have starting taking it regular, I have had no more heart “issues” which consisted of 10-15 hour episodes of crazy up/down BP (such as 80/40 to 180/100), tachycharida (100 plus when my regular pulse is around 60-65) and arrhythmia.
Copying from a couple of my herb books.
Works on these tissues:
Blood, plasma, muscle, fat, bone, nerve and marrow.
On these systems:
circulatory, respiratory, nervous, digestive, urinary
Properties:
cardiac tonic, stimulant, sedative, vasodilator, vulnerary, diuretic, hemostatic, digestive, analgesic
Indications for use:
Heart disease, hypertension, hypotension, ateriosclerosis, congestive cardiac failure, angina pectoris, palpitation, bleeding disorders, high choleseterol, breathlessness, edema, poisonings, sprue, diarrhea, internal and external ulcers, sores, diabetes, high blood sugar, traumatic injury and broken bones
Additionally helps endocarditis, pericarditis, all cardiovascular diseases including arrhythmias. Helps improve cardiac muscle function and pumping activity of the heart, effective for congestive heart failure. Protects the tissue of the heart from damage of heart attack (myocardial infarction), helps tachychardia. Also contains antimutagenic and anticancer properties, and is a powerful antibacterial. Helps to stimulate pancreatic function.
Dosage recommendations vary, depends on condition, age, size and health condition of the person. 1-3 gms a day, 500 gms per dose (usually 2-3 X a day). Another book says 3-12 gms a day, for most herbs 1 t. is about 3 grams.
Later I can post on some other heart herbs, that can be taken with Arjuna or by themselves, but Arjuna is really the best herb for heart I know of. I take with Hawthorne and a few others.
Thanks for the info! I will be trying Arjuna and report back.
I can recommend the best sources that I know; I buy only from 3 places, all have in house labs that test for authenticity, impurities, heavy metals, pesticides etc. Organic or w/c only is what I buy. I will be posting more herbs for the heart today.
Hawthorne Berry
Tissues: Works on plasma, blood, muscle
Commonly used as a heart tonic, also helps with digestion. Mild cornoary vasodilator, increasing blood supply to the heart muscles. Used for the above conditions and arrhythmia and extra systole. Its tonic action can help to stimulate the heart function in deficient conditions, or depress it in conditions of excess. Can help lower diastolic BP combined with Arjuna, Passionflower and/or Motherwort. 1 t. of the mix of herbs can be taken in a cup of hot water 3x a day, add honey.
