Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.
More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.
My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.
There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.
I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.
I have a lot of fabric already because I used to make and sell pillows.
I had a small stroke nine years ago. As a result I have simple partial seizures.
The first time I saw my current neurologist she was so happy to hear i use curcumin. She had me increase my dose to three times the recommended dose. Within two months the nerve pain in my leg was gone.
Check out Standard Process vitamins/supplements.
You can get excellent information from www.prohealthsolutions.com
If you call the toll free number, nutritionist will assist you with good information.
I can highly recommend.
Purchased magnesium in January to resolve issue with heart...am taking Vitamins D3 with K1 & K2...needed the magnesium (which I had not been using). Issue was resolved in 24 hours!
muggs, so glad to hear it helped you! Powerful stuff.
Even though I quit smoking 14 years ago I didn't avoid the damage I did to my body. I was DX’ed seven years after I stopped.
Not synthesized. Made from real food/plants.

What kind of heart issue? I and others would be interested. Good that it got resolved; heart issues can be quite debilitating and they aren’t fun.
Imho the only vitamins worth taking are those made from actual plants/foods with no sythesized ingredients. That’s good to know. I don’t personally take vitamins because I eat a very good diet, but for those who don’t vitamins can be helpful.
Would you mind posting some info about that condition? That would be helpful.
I have some things that help lung function in general; I have asthma and I can share what I have learned and use. COPD also involves heart, right? Maybe you could give a bit of information about the specifics of COPD, and I will be happy to post anything I have found out.
That is very encouraging.
Since I can’t stand prunes I eat black plums. They work just as well but taste better.
muggs...are you looking for help with certain symptoms of COPD? Which?
I treat boils with plain wet tea bags. Squeeze out water and apply to boil. The tannin draws out the pus.
They have exterminator treat for bed bugs once a month.
I was told I had moderate to severe COPD. I was devastated.
I decided I would lose 20 pounds. I lost 35 which was way to much. I got a gym membership and started working out five days a week. I now use N-acetylL-cysteine every day. It is an amino acid and a natural expeterctent. My doctor has changed his opinion and says I have mild COPD. Since COPD is a progressive illness with no cure I am always looking for more ways to keep it under control.
Lately I haven't been able to exercise as much as I would like due to three hip surgeries in eight months. I have just started working out again so I'm sure once I get back to my full routine I will get my breathing capacity back. I am always looking for more natural ways to halt the progression.
Please add my to your list. Thanks.
Shortness of breath. I am only on Symbicort and a rescue inhaler. I only use the rescue inhaler before I work out.
I mostly want to halt the progression of the COPD.
Two things that may help...
Standard Process makes a supplement called Cataplex E2.
This is the oxygen-sparing portion of vitamin E. It enables your body to meet its need for oxygen with less oxygen.
Second, look into Cordyceps.
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cordyceps-benefits#section1
It gets oxygen into your tissues, along with many other benefits.
I use both. Big difference for me.
Best.
“Dried Plums!” Chopped up they go well in oatmeal! (Plums are always “in season!” ;)
I immediately starting to drink, each day, five packets (5000mg total) of Emergen-C. I also consumed a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil in my oatmeal for breakfast. I washed the infected area with the coconut oil. I continued to do so until the infected area cleared up and was no longer itchy or painful. That was a 3 week period.
Compared to horror stories I've heard from shingle sufferers, I ended up having a mild case. I had two family members follow the same protocol and they had the same results. So I'd say get on Valtrex ASAP, load up on Vitamin C, and finally keep your skin supple and your nerves calm with the coconut oil.
Thank you for more details.
It’s too late tonight for me to post anything (exhausting setting in w/stuff to do yet) but I do have info and ideas and many I’ve done myself, to help lung capacity, help clear them out etc. Do you have any edema in heart?
