Civil Rights Group Says Park Rangers Uniforms Are Threatening To Latinos For ABSURD Reason By Jeff Rainforth
A coalition of lawmakers and civil rights groups has a message for the National Park Service: your uniforms and vehicles are very threatening to Latinos.
Maite Arce of the Hispanic Access Foundation delivered the really tough message during a press conference on Thursday:
Its such a shame that something as simple as the uniform and its similarity to the border patrols uniform in the coloring could be very threatening to certain segments of the Latino population. So a discussion about that is going to be really tough.
The coalition made multiple recommendations to the Park Service, including:
Assess the cultural implications of existing agency uniforms, offices, signage, and other facilities. For example, the Park Service law-enforcement vehicles look like those used by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and uniforms have law enforcement connotations, both of which present a significant impediment to engaging all Americans.
Review names of sites throughout system for cultural bias. Some may require comprehensive name changes to reflect a broader and more inclusive history.
The coalition is asking President Obama to issue an executive order directing the Department of Interior and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to adopt guiding priorities for a more inclusive approach to National Parks.

Seventy-eight percent of National Park visitors are non-Hispanic whites. There has been a discussion over why blacks don’t visit National Parks. Let me go out a limb and guess that there will be a similar discussion about why Latinos don’t visit, and they’ll point to ranger uniforms and vehicles. Caramba! Eets de border patrol! Andale!
Winfield Scott kicked Mexican butt at Veracruz.
We should never have given Mexico any captured territory back.
That was a mistake we are still paying for.
Arizona Park Rebounds After Years of Border Crime
Astrid Galvan, Yahoo! News, March 12, 2015
For over a decade, armed drug traffickers were so prevalent in this vast desert monument that visitors were barred from entering more than half of it.
One law enforcement group dubbed it Americas most dangerous park for two years straight after drug smugglers gunned down a ranger.
But a series of crackdowns and decreased traffic on Arizonas border with Mexico have turned things around at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. For the first time since 2003, visitors can access all 516 square miles of the park named for a unique cactus breed that resembles a pipe organ with its long, narrow arms and short trunk.
The picturesque monument epitomizes the challenge of protecting visitors and government workers from the dangers of smuggling in southern Arizona, where large swaths of the border with Mexico are public land. Along the border and very near to it are four wildlife refuges, three national parks, two state parks and two wildlife conservation areas.
The 2003 closure of nearly 70 percent of Organ Pipe marked the first time in recent history that a national monument was largely closed because of threats posed by humans. It followed several incidents involving drug and human smugglers, including the 2002 death of Kris Eggle, a 28-year-old law enforcement park ranger killed while pursuing a group of smugglers.
For those brave enough to want to hike through the parks closed areas, rangers armed with long rifles provided security on guided tours.

Drug Cartels And Illegal Aliens Invade US Park

The stupiditity of the PCdiot crowd knows no frontiers it’s not willing to cross.
The person who wrote that slogan on that sign should be affixed to a gigantic catapult and launched back across the Rio Grande or whatever southern boundary.
If the occasional legal immigrant doesn’t feign feeling threatened or offended because they have friends and/or relatives trying to get here illegally, I would not be surprised.
2) Visiting a national park is a cultural thing. One needed to be interested in going. Some cultural groups in the U.S. are more interested in travel and natural than others. It's that simple.
Evanston is as white a place as there could be.
Note that these “policies” tend to be implemented in liberal bastions
Don’t ask SCOTUS to rule in your favor. They already told a school district that it was okay to suspend children and send them home for wearing US flag shirts
I agree on both points.
Please explain to us why we should care. We are Americans not Latinos so if it bothers you GO HOME!
Solution? Go back to Mexico where it’s safer.
How many tamales and enchiladas EXTRA did that thing eat?
Some ethnic groups are more ADVENTUROUS, ENTERPRISING, & FEARLESS than other groups.
Went to several huge National Parks out west a few years back. Probably saw one black out there and zero hipsanics. Saw far more Asians and Indians (Dots) than expected.
Like they’ve been scared of border patrol uniforms in decades.
ALL the illegals need to go home... they are not welcome here.
