I first became aware of Phil Robertson’s recent controversial comments because Ace wrote up a criticism headlined “So Phil Robertson Is Yammering Again.” I disagreed with some of what he said but that was that and I went about my day. Then an article by Katherine Timpf at National Review titled “Stop Defending Phil Robertson – You’re Embarrassing Yourself” popped up as well and I started to realize that the only people writing about Phil’s comments were people that disagreed with them.
Before I show you the comments, let me make clear that I do not believe the language Phil used to make his point was necessary. It was a graphic analogy used to make a point I agree with and resulted in what so often happens when you use graphic analogies: people don’t hear what you’re actually saying. To me, this is counterproductive.
Let me also add that I’ve never watched Duck Dynasty in my life and could care less about anyone’s celebrity. This is not a defense of Phil as much as it is a disagreement over the conclusions drawn by other writers who thought this was worth writing about.
That said, here’s the quote:

READ THE QUOTE PHIL ROBERTSON MADE THAT GOT PEOPLE ( INCLUDING CONSERVATIVES ) UPSET AND CRINGING BY CLICKING ON THE ABOVE LINK, but here’s the author’s main point:
... of course a person would be appalled and find them morally depraved. Phil’s poorly made point, one that again, is deeply rooted in mainstream Christianity. The idea, as i mentioned above, that we are programmed as creations of God to inherently understand morality and that morality is not relative to itself but rather to God.
He’s making the argument that, in his belief system, anyone, be they atheist or Christian, instinctively knows God and either rejects or accepts Him, either consciously or subconsciously. Phil believes that all morality comes from God and that rejecting God’s existence is accepting moral relativity because, as is the view of many Christians, an existence without God is an existence without a moral center that has authority.
Now, I’ll say this one more time before closing: it doesn’t matter if you agree with him or anyone else on this. This is a normal Christian view said in the most unnecessarily shocking & unartistic way possible.
Fault him for his language or for hurting Christianity’s brand and I may agree with you. But while it may make an atheist find Christianity even more repellent, I have to let you know that from a Christian’s point of view, the underlying philosophy is correct.
But, with the word of God, everyone has a standard, which is not a man-made standard. Your opinion doesn't matter. It's simple: "This is right; that is wrong."
Without God, there can be no morality, there is merely whim.

It forces their capitulation and wakes everyone up.
It's also fun to watch your opponent stammer and subsequently fail to recover.
He shoots straight from the hip and unloads.
There is no spin with Phil. Just unadulterated truth.
He smashes people in the face with a 2x4 (with love).
When he is done, THEY KNOW they've been hit. There is no denying.
What they do with what Phil hit them with, is their choice, like it or not.
I'm a construction worker. Not a whole lot shocks or "offends" me. To those offended by the style, I say MTFU.
Blast away Phil, blast away.

Since atheistic morality has been at the heart of over 200 million murders in the past 100 years he may have a point. Of course the world is going to be upset.

I see nothing wrong with WHAT Phil said and HOW he is making the point.
Use this for context: Romans 1:18-31. IF YOU DO NOT - then read no further.
Phil purposely used a horrific scenario - horrific EVEN IN THE ATHEIST’S MIND - to make the point that EVEN THE ATHEIST would admit that there IS an Absolute Right and Wrong - Absolute Law - but he won’t acknowledge it is from God - for THEN he is accountable.
The example HAD to be extreme to remove all ‘nuance’ of situation ethics and moral equivalence. Romans 1 and other parts of the Bible make it clear that God has written HIS law on men’s hearts - whether they want to admit it or not.

That’s the way i see it... Most of my life i was agnostic at best...whithout going into detail...The rules laid down from God and me knowing deep down they were right, is what made me a Christian.
That’s the truth. Robertson talks in the gritty, no-nonsense, bare-knuckled way that I used to hear from a lot of old-timers I grew up with, both relatives and neighbors. And perhaps not coincidentally, most of them sharing the same Ark-La-Tex roots of Robertson.
Funny (in a pathetic way) how this sort of thing gives everyone the vapors nowadays. But American culture as a whole has devolved into such a wimpy, faggoty mess, that nothing should be a surprise. We used to be John Wayne’s America. We’re now “My Little Pony’s” America.
The fake outrage is just a way to shut him up.
Phil is NOT a politician, stealing candy from babies one day, and kissing them the next day.
Phil is NOT a pastor, that has to answer to the church board, and not say something that might endanger the church’s IRS-sanctioned 503c standing.
Phil does say it straight, for a man who has lived life, both carnal and christian, and knows which side of his bread is buttered, and by whom.
I admire him for that.
Should he shut up? Nope. Too many people have, and that is why we are where we are.
My wife and I were just discussing this the other day. Imagine John Wayne being around now and seeing all the fairies in Hollywood.
Most people love to be offended and be the victim. When I was a kid all the boys had fights to see who was the toughest, now a lot of boys have never had a fight in their lives and would rather talk abut handbags and dresses. Prime example is the fairy in the white house today.
