s a de-facto declaration of war.
The measure, which was introduced several months ago by Senators Lindsey Graham, Bob Casey and Joe Lieberman, supports continuing to pressure Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program. The resolution advocates using methods other than containment to stop Iran, including exerting economic and diplomatic pressure. Senate Joint Resolution 41 rejects any United States policy that would rely on efforts to contain a nuclear weapons-capable Iran. Senators expressed their fears regarding Irans nuclear capabilities.
We know that Iran would create access for terrorists access for them to these nuclear weapons, making the Middle East a nuclear tinbox, Sen. Richard Blumenthal said before the Senate. We cannot trust this regime. We know that fact beyond any potential doubt.
The bill states that it should not be misinterpreted as an endorsement for military force or war. But as the only senator to vote against the resolution, Paul argued that the resolution would eventually lead to war with Iran.
A vote for this resolution is a vote for the concept of preemptive war, Paul said before the Senate.
Passage of the resolution comes at a time when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has been pressuring the US for an answer as to what would prompt a US-led military strike against Iran.
Currently, the US is already imposing tough sanctions on Iran to limit its oil sales, hurt its economy and make it problematic for Iran to finance its nuclear enrichment program.
Iran has continuously insisted that its nuclear program is entirely for peaceful, civilian ends.

First paragraph should have been:
“The US Senate voted 90-1 early Saturday on a non-binding resolution to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Voting against the resolution was Sen. Rand Paul, arguing that the bill was a de-facto declaration of war.”
Nice flashback from Putin Today.
Rand Paul stands alone as the fruitcake of the Senate, just like his father.
The US Senate voted 90-1 early Saturday on a non-binding resolution to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Voting against the resolution was Sen. Rand Paul, arguing that a few million dead Americans is no biggie.
Why did the Democrats vote for the bill? Did the bill have an amendment added to it which advanced the liberal agenda?
Very good analysis!
Russia Today = Putin.
I’m not saying they misreported Rand’s actions and words; just that they were trying to spin it into the context of a (somehow) hawkish liberal US federal government.
Any politician striving to compete at the national level knows that isolationist pacificism is a big loser in a national election.
Most people understand that the enemies of civilization are as dangerous as the weapons they can get their hands on. And weapons are everywhere for the taking.
I am as sympathetic as possible with the general proposition to try to avoid as many conflicts, wars as possible
Some conflicts, wars are not possible to avoid
and some are best dealt with while your enemy is still not fully armed (with nukes, say, and especially when he’s sworn to destroy you just as soon as he completes building his arsenal)
the federal government’s first duty is to defend America from its enemies
Rand Paul has disqualified himself from consideration for the Presidency.
Anyone who thinks no intervention is good fails to learn how the Russians had to spemd a long time pushing the Germans back after they busted in.
No, I an very familiar with Russia Today, their promotion of the extreme fringe, destroys any credibility with me.
He has called for smashing ISIS. We can’t be seen as the mullahs’ air force. But I do share his reservations about going around the world in search of monsters to destroy.
Ru Paul is a f’n DemocRat.
Paultardation takes its toll, doo-dah, doo-dah.

Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt's Generals: 'How Does Your Conscience Feel Now?'Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt's military -- even as Cairo's security forces massacre anti-government activists. Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.[Posted on 11/19/2013 12:16:51 PM by Third Person]
Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.[Posted on 01/31/2013 5:08:50 PM PST by xzins]
Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
Yesterday, the Senate approved a bill to arm and train Syrian rebels, who fight against Bashar Assad, so they can eliminate ISIS, which possesses hundreds of millions of dollars, and no shortage of fighters willing to die for them... Even libertarian-leaning (read: isolationist) Rand Paul voted for this measure.Cowardly Congress Authorizes Obama to Pay Others to FightIm not sending your son, your daughter, over to the middle of that chaos, said Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, whose libertarian views have propelled him into contention for his partys 2016 nomination. The people who live there need to stand up and fight.
