For all these years we've been told it's "Osama," like he's part Irish. Now I've been seeing Fox News (and other news sources I'm sure) using "Usama." I've had a friend on Facebook ask me what the proper spelling is. Apparently it's both, so I devised a way to help people figure out which version should be used.

I call this piece "The Ubama Bunch."

Has Rush started calling Obama, Ubama? Heads will explode and I will laugh. Not one conservative should refer to the poser and chief as Obama while the media pushes the Usama crap.

Im sure that Obama would rather that it be spelled Usama. The media who push that spelling are probably trying to do Obama a favor. That's my thought too. Started out Osama. Then the media tried Usama, but eventually went back to Osama. Then Obama runs for President and suddenly the media was trying Usama again. But, eventually went back to Obama.
I prefer Osama because it resembles Obama.

“THEY” changed the spelling from Osama to Usama
to distinguish him from Ubama ... er ... Obama.
Otherwise, we would all be VERY confused.

Yes, for example in French that monster's name was rendered Oussama ben Laden. In English, Portuguese, and German, it was Osama bin Laden.

the media is tweaking the name to make it less like obama’s.

Usama bin laden - 300K hits
I would say that the Lame Stream is manipulating the narrative...

There's nothing nefarious about this. Here's the reason.
There's many ways to transliterate Arabic vowels and consonants. Consider 'Muhammad' as 'Mohammed', 'Mohamet', 'Muhammed', etc, all translating the same name. This caused a lot of confusion, so the Intelligence Community came up with a universal standard.
Anything you see coming from the U.S. government will use IC compliant Arabic, because it's impossible to do a database search using Arabic names without a common standard.
"Usama" is the IC standard for transliteration of the word we used to see as "Osama".
"Osama" is common usage, from when the world knew Osama through the media reports in the 90s. Neither spelling is wrong, exactly, it's just the one coming from the government is database compliant.

That's not a terrible guess, but the US government switched to the Usama vs Osama spelling several years ago, somewhere in Bush's first term.
I do like Ubama, though. Hope that one sticks. ;-)

There should be no confusion between osama and obama.
One is a foreign terrorist dedicated the destruction of the United States. The other was killed by Navy Seals last week.

Fox News has had a stick up their butt about the spelling of bin Laden’s first name since 9/11. Of all the major news outlets, they were the only ones who spelled it with a U.
It’s got to be company policy straight from the top, too, because you’ll never see it spelled with an O by anyone there.
