WASHINGTON, March 23 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The 11th Hour Coalition to Save Terri Schiavo's Life will hold simultaneous press conferences -- Wednesday, March 23 -- at 12 noon in Washington, D.C., and Tallahassee, Fla.
This ad hoc partnership of religious and political organizations -- which will gather in front of the White House and the Florida governor's mansion -- will call on President George W. Bush and Gov. Jeb Bush to use their executive powers to protect Terri Schiavo from starvation.
"There are two people in the United States who can save Terri Schiavo's life right now. The president of the United States and the governor of Florida have the authority to use the police services at their disposal to take Terri into protective custody, restore her food and hydration, and arrest anyone who would interfere," said Dr. Paul Schenck, executive director of the National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill. "For the sake of Terri's life, we cannot afford to wait while the courts dither over jurisdiction."
Dr. Paul Schenck, National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill

-- Fr. Thomas Euteneuer, Human Life International
-- Michael A. Peroutka, Esq., Institute on the Constitution -- Rev. Greg Cox, Faith and Action

A spouse cannot ask for assisted (i.e. morphine in a high dose), but can discontinue life support.
Why does that matter to you, or us?
How did they play Waco? Or Elian Gonzales?
They played it like they play everything and anything that someone on "their side" of an issue does...as a good and necessary and justifiable action, not to be questioned or investigated.
This would certainly be a milder use of police power than either of those, and others of the Clintonista regime . . .
Three wrongs don't make a right. Although I believe that Terri should have been either provided the proper treatment necessary for a handicapped person *or* turned over to her parents custody *or* criminal investigation of Michael Scaivo *or* all three...a police action would be both validation of Waco/Elian and set the precedent for future actions whenever the Dems fool the electorate once again and re-capture the White House.
Believe I heard someone this morning say she's being medicated so she won't feel any pain. Anybody else hear this?
I think I heard it's available "if needed". (sarcasm there)
I don't equate the removal of life support such as a respirator from someone with PROVEN brain with the removal of a feeding tube.
"Judge Greer should be sitting in jail right now!"
he is Judas, let's give him 30 pieces and tell him to go on his way
jail is good, too
"conspiracy in the whole of the judiciary "
my point is that the rulings have violated hundreds of years of the rule of law regarding innocent life; not that there was a conspiracy
"But do we want to compromise all spousal rights in order to save Terri?"
no
what spousal rights does/should an adulturer and common law bigamist have with respect to his wife??
I agree with you totally!
In addition to the judges, you should also point a guilty finger at out-of-control media!
That's the point. These issues should have been decided by the courts years ago. When he began living with the other woman and having children with her, couldn't Terri's attorney claimed abandonment and filed for divorce for her?
Then her parents would be in control and we wouldn't have this problem.
Someone dropped the ball a long time ago.
see my recent posts; I am not talking about illegal use of police power but legitimate action to save an INNOCENT LIFE.
The MSM would try to play it as the same thing as Clinton's excesses -- no, they would say it was worse . . .
But in reality is wouldn't be; it would be a rational and legitimate use of state authority to save an INNOCENT LIFE. If that can no longer be done in our country LEGALLY, then man, we are worse off than most people believed yesterday!!!
Some blesseds/saints survived without natural means of food and water, but that is a miraculous situation; we can pray for it, but not count on it.
We are supposed to be the Body of Christ, taking food to the hungry and water to the thirsty (Corporal works of Mercy). He did not promise to do it for us via miraculous means.
Unfortunately, the courts do not agree that the actions here are "extra-legal".
She is illegally in a hospice according to Florida law.
The courts, again, disagree with you.
Her husband/guardian is a common-law bigamist.
The courts have found this to be irrelevant.
To force Terri to die without everyone knowing without question what her wishes are and what the true facts are surrounding her condition will carve an unhealable wound in the soul of America. Too many questions need to be answered. Closure will not be possible.
We need to know if our court system is on the up and up and if our system of government is as divinely inspired as our founders claim once and for all. America is being tried here as well. The world is watching and will make a judgement on America, either siding with us as we act with mercy or in utter contempt of us as just another failed system of government co-opted by a strange creed.
Nope.
The Constitution does not have a right to privacy, and those judges who created it amended the Constitution unlawfully.
The Constitution limits the powers of government. It does not limit the rights of citizens. The Constitution does not give the federal government the power to legislate the private relations of citizens.
All states in 1965 were allowed to outlaw or allow contraception.
All states in 1955 were allowed to outlaw or allow Jim Crow laws.
I am not for outlawing contraception. I AM for following the Constitution.
When it suits you.
What I don't understand is how Child Protective Services can come in and take children away from parents and make them wards of the court, why isn't there some agency that can do that for incapacitated adults?
We certainly have the right to let them know what they think.
They are not a branch without immediate checks and balances from the other branches.
Aside from playing games like limiting their funding or jurisdiction, what constitutional authority does the legislative or executive branch have to immediately check/balance the judicial branch?
(Of course this assumes that impeachment is used as a last resort. It could be used as an "immediate" check if Congress had the will to do so.)
Congress has not asked that the Bush administration enforce the subpoena.
Impeach them.
