WASHINGTON, March 23 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The 11th Hour Coalition to Save Terri Schiavo's Life will hold simultaneous press conferences -- Wednesday, March 23 -- at 12 noon in Washington, D.C., and Tallahassee, Fla.
This ad hoc partnership of religious and political organizations -- which will gather in front of the White House and the Florida governor's mansion -- will call on President George W. Bush and Gov. Jeb Bush to use their executive powers to protect Terri Schiavo from starvation.
"There are two people in the United States who can save Terri Schiavo's life right now. The president of the United States and the governor of Florida have the authority to use the police services at their disposal to take Terri into protective custody, restore her food and hydration, and arrest anyone who would interfere," said Dr. Paul Schenck, executive director of the National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill. "For the sake of Terri's life, we cannot afford to wait while the courts dither over jurisdiction."
Dr. Paul Schenck, National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill
Coalition Members appearing at the press conference:
-- Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life
-- Stephen G. Peroutka, Esq., Face the Truth TV & Radio
-- Fr. Thomas Euteneuer, Human Life International
-- Michael A. Peroutka, Esq., Institute on the Constitution -- Rev. Greg Cox, Faith and Action
-- Rev. Stephen Cox, Gospel of Life Ministries
-- Rev. John Vandenberge, National Clergy Council
Or a lot of good folks could be turned off by calls to bring in the police.
I thought we stood for something when we said we're pro-lifers. Another myth bites the dust.

Yes, by subpoenaing(sp?) Terri Schiavo. By doing that statutory protections were put into place that Judge Greer simply brushed aside. If President Bush wanted to he could enforce those statutory protections by taking Terri into protective custody.
Correct. It's assisted suicide.
Then perhaps some of representatives will strike up a chorus to impeach Greer. Otherwise, I'm not impressed.
Damn right...anybody feel like trumping out "JUST WIN BABY!" now?
(shaking head)
The law now allows a husband to speak for his wife if she cannot and vice versa. I would want my husband to do so. Unfortunately, that assumes the husband has his wife's best wishes at heart. But do we want to compromise all spousal rights in order to save Terri?
And some of this over the top stuff plays into the liberal's hands.
If there is no living will, then the spouse has no legal right to ask hospice to perform assisted suicide. Isn't that what it comes down to?
Hmmm, I guess I just don't understand legal matters too well. It just amazes me that taking action to save someone's life could be deemed illegal. It seems to me that what SHOULD be illegal, is a judge allowing the "husband" to make the determination to end her life, in the absence of any declaration on Terri's part that that is indeed what she wants (other than Michael Schiavo's hearsay assertion that he and Terri discussed it some time before she became ill, and she supposedly told him she would want to die).
"Sending out the police would give a liberal president or governor a precedent to send out troops to support their liberal view on abortion, death penalty, Iraq war etc."
Precedent!?! Reno's Justice had federal marshalls protecting abortion mills and intimidating legitimate protest; she burned Waco; she kidnapped Elian at gun point.
What makes you think liberal Presidents are waiting for a precedent?!?
I am not suggesting an illegal use of executive power, but legitimate use to save innocent life. IF THIS IS 'NOT LEGAL' THAN OF WHAT USE IS THE LAW?? IOW it clearly IS legally possible for the Governor or President to take her into PROTECTIVE CUSTODY, for HER benefit.
The "slippery slope" is an outdated metaphor.
We are about a half inch from rock bottom.
In our youth we often say things like "If I'm ever in that state, I want to die." But do we say we want to be starved to death? No living will exists, just the "husband's" spin.
Wow, points for getting to the truth in the fewest words!
"Send marshalls to enforce the congressional subpoena, and get Terri out of there."
What if the governor did it personally? They would not shoot him, would they? He could have bodyguards, but it would not be marshalls securing Terri, it would be the gov. He would tell the police in advance so there would be no mistaken violent action.
