A South Park Republican defends the show

I am grateful to Andrew Sullivan for calling to my attention a blog entry in defense of South Park, from a site titled "Sorry Baby, But Nobody Rules The Tom Monster." Blogger Tom Meyer rebuts Brent Bozzell (whom I generally admire) for his somewhat unfair attack on South Park.
I stipulate that SP is crude and vulgar, as would anyone anchored in reality. But SP also stands up for some very positive values, in a way that is both attractive and accessible to people in college, or a few years after it or before it. The phrase "South Park Republicans" has already come into wide usage, and it reflects an exceedingly important youth trend that we need to reinforce: conservatism is hip because it doesn't tolerate BS.

That is absolutely one of the funniest ever. So was the one with Kenny G. and Mr. Garrisons dad. Cartman had discovered/uncovered the note that would make everyone crap their pants. LOL

That and the overwhelmingly funny and incredibly genius NAMBLA episode where the NAMBLA nuts kept citing how they just want the freedom to have a loving relationship to which Stan(or Kyle...can't recall) kept replying "Dude! You have sex with kids!" The North American Marlon Brando Look Alikes?

Awwww! That is so cute! Your man knows Morse Code and loves you with it. Clever guy you've got there. Good sense of humor, too.

That April Fools episode bored me and pissed me off at the same time. Stupid Canadians with their flapping heads and beady eyes. Just a lot of fart jokes and toilet humor.

I am probably one of the few that wasn't that upset when they ran the Terrence and Phillip episode as an April Fools joke, when people wanted to know who Cartman's dad was. That was actually a very funny episode.I remeber an interview with Trey and Matt, and they said that they thought it would be really funny to have a cliff-hanger episode, and then not show the resolution. Well, when they put on the Terrance and Phillip episode, they said that they got death threats! They had no idea how seriously some people were taking South Park. I think that up to that point, to them South Park was a lot like how Weird Al looked at the movie "UHF." Weird Al said it was just a chance for him to get together with friends and be "goofy."

He's completely 100% right of course...though it should be noted that the Hilton episode was a call for modesty
among young children Actually, the "Vote or Die, M.F." episode was even more pointed and well aimed, perhaps the best satire of the last decade.

This thread, for example, won't be any good if you-know-who-doesn't show up :~D
Trey is hopefully too busy making new episodes to put on his "OC" persona. >:)

It is still one of the few shows that the reruns usually still cause belly laughs. For me, Seinfeld is another one. I have watched a certain episode 10 or more times, and still think it's hilarious.

Several years ago Brent Bozell wrote a lengthy piece trashing South Park. It started with a sentence informing his readers he had never seen the show. So the entire piece was devoid first hand knowledge of the show, and thus was entirely incorrect from start to finish.

Not Without My Anus was an excellent episode. But it really pissed off a lot of people after they waited months and months to find out who Cartmans father is.
Comedy Central even ran some of the voice mails they got from angry viewers as commercials for South Park. They were hillarious.
